Polk Audio, best known for its home theater speakers, wasn’t subtle when naming its virtual assistant speakers the “Assist;” Google Assistant is built in, allowing you to control your compatible smart devices through them with just your voice. Available in midnight black or cool gray, the Assist has a 1" tweeter and a 3.5" woofer that can output up to 40W of total power from the Class-D amplifier. In addition to Google Assistant, the Assist also has Chromecast built in, which allows you to stream audio from your favorite compatible device directly to it. You can even group multiple Chromecast-enabled speakers and soundbars together throughout the house for a whole-home wireless audio experience.
With just a 4.7" square footprint, the Assist can be placed virtually anywhere, which brings me to one of my favorite features: the grille is made from stain-resistant fabric, which means you won’t have to worry about keeping it nearby while cooking or eating. Of course, with its far-field microphone array, you don’t need to keep it that close, but it’s good to know that you can if you want to.
