With Core™ Ultra, Intel® makes its biggest architecture shift in 40 years. The processors will feature an all-new chiplet design. The Core™ Ultra houses the Compute Tile, Graphics Tile, SOC Tile, and IO Tile. The Compute Tile will be built on the Intel® 4 process technology, while the SOC Tile will include a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI capabilities.
The architecture shift will allow Core™ Ultra to be Intel®’s most power-efficient processors yet. With other improvements, such as twice the graphics performance, a “low power island” that can run tasks on its own—and more—the Core™ Ultra processors are ready to take your workflow to new frontiers.
With AI acceleration built into every Intel® Core™ Ultra processor, enhanced productivity, creativity, and collaboration is available right from your computer. Working with more than 100 ISVs on 300+ AI-accelerated features, Intel® Core™ Ultra and these applications will empower people to create art, make music, synthesize knowledge, and more. Popular ISVs, such as Adobe, BlackMagic, and others, can utilize the CPU, GPU, and NPU of the Intel® Core™ Ultra processor to maximize performance and efficiency.
For example, Adobe Lightroom will utilize AI acceleration for features such as upscaling, framing, subject selection, Inpainting, and smart scene framing, speeding up your workflow. GIMP allows you to use Stable Diffusion Generation locally so your AI-generated text-to-image is created directly from your Intel® Core™ Ultra processor and not from the cloud. Intel® and its partners are ushering in a new class of applications that will allow users to take full advantage of AI on their PCs.
Built for the first time with Intel® 4 process technology, the Compute Tile features P-cores and E-cores, which are all based on new microarchitectures. Combined with the low-power E-cores (located on the SOC Tile), the three different cores are known as 3D performance hybrid architecture. The P-cores and two different E-cores work together to deliver high performance and maximum power efficiency.
The Graphics Tile is dedicated to integrated Intel® Arc Graphics™. By disaggregating the media and display engines (now found on the SOC Tile) from the Graphics Tile, certain workloads, such as encoding/decoding and video playback, won’t require the Graphics Tile to be powered up. This means Intel® Arc Graphics™ can focus on delivering up to twice the performance per watt than its predecessor, the 12th Gen Intel® Iris Xe Graphics™. It also includes modern graphics features that can be found on Intel® Arc™ discrete graphics cards, such as raytracing.
The SOC Tile features new low-power island E-cores. It also has a built-in NPU with AI capabilities, a first for consumer processors. The media engine of the SOC Tile has 8K HDR and AV1 support, while the display engine works with native HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 standards. For wireless connectivity, the SOC Tile also handles Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, as well as the latest Bluetooth standards. Also found on the SOC Tile is the memory controller.
As its name suggests, the IO Tile is focused on providing additional connectivity. It will be able to support the PCIe Gen 5.0 and Thunderbolt™ 4 standards.
