Looking to expand and enhance its line of lighting gear for photographers and videographers, Fotodiox has recently made available larger versions of some of its popular LED panels and a brand new focusable spot fixture. This includes 18 x 18" and round 30" models in their slim half-inch-thick Flapjack line, as well as a brand new focusable Pro PopSpot light. Shooters should be able to find a home for these lights in a studio or on location, because they can run on AC or battery power. Also, they all boast outstanding CRIs of 95, for accurate colors in your images.
Of these new lights, the most familiar-looking one is the C-818ASV Studio Pro Flapjack Bi-Color LED Edge Light, with its square shape. This panel steps things up a notch, though, with a large 18 x 18" size, more than twice the area of a standard 1 x 1' panel, and the use of LEDs at the edges that are bounced inward and then through the panel’s surface, resulting in a smooth, soft output. More unique is the Studio XL C-1500RSV Round Bi-Color Flapjack LED Light, which is a circular 30" fixture. Featuring similar LED edge-lighting technology, this panel will deliver soft lighting while helping to create circular catchlights in your subject’s eyes. Other advantages of these lights are the bi-color design, allowing users to quickly tune the light from 3200-5600K, and variable power of 10-100%, both of which can be controlled locally or via DMX. Additionally, each fixture is equipped with a Sony V-mount plate for running on optional 14.8 V batteries.
Going in a different direction than the panels is the Pro PopSpot High-Intensity Daylight LED Spot Light, which features a dense-matrix LED with a beam angle that can be focused anywhere from 25-55°. The light itself is quite compact and features a daylight-balanced 5600K color temperature and a filter for converting it to 3200K. Users can dim the light from 0-100% and it has an LCD screen on the rear of the fixture that clearly displays current settings. Additionally, it can run on Sony L-series batteries with an optional battery module. You can pick up this light as a single light with a ball head mount, as a kit with battery module, or as a three-light kit.
