Like a kid in a candy store, it’s time to hustle up to the front of the counter and try Lowel’s new lineup of C-stands and grip accessories—a veritable erector set for photographers and filmmakers.
Featuring sturdy aluminum-and-steel construction, Lowel’s first foray into the professional grip industry comes in two different flavors of C-stands—a turtle base and a sliding leg model—each of which is outfitted with a 40" double riser shaft and rated to a load capacity of 22 lb.
Affording a maximum working height of 118" and weighing 12.8 lb, the turtle base model offers spring-loaded legs for fast setup and breakdown and a removable base that allows for the introduction of stand adapters or other accessories into a 1-1/8" junior receiver for low-angle lighting. Alternatively, you can replace the legs with a runway base for greater mobility.
When faced with uneven terrain, the sliding-leg model’s fluid top leg allows you to keep the stand level in any conditions, with the notable advantage of a comfortable gap between the top leg and its adjustment knob for ease of use. It has a maximum working height of 127" and weighs 12 lb.
To ensure maximum torque when securing a heavy load, each stand is equipped with large, ergonomic T-handles, which do the trick while being easy to grab and hold. Hexagonal break castings, with tapered brass brake shoes for a secure hold, and tri-star knobs add a further touch of distinction, and plastic feet in Lowel-branded yellow provide a splash of color while protecting floors or other delicate surfaces from scratches.
Both C-stands are designed to industry standards, with a 37" footprint diameter when in use, a collapsed length of 53.5", and staggered-height legs to allow for nesting when closed. They fit perfectly on grip trucks and C-stand hangers for ease of transportation and storage.
Completing Lowel’s lineup are two indispensible grip accessories: a 2.5" rugged aluminum Grip Head featuring 5/8" and 3/8" holes for mounting grip arms and other lighting fixtures or grip gear, and a sturdy 40" Grip Arm, with a fixed 2.5" grip head on one end and a pin with a flat recess milled into the tube at the other, to prevent small light fixtures from slipping or rotating when mounted for use.
Available in a choice of electroplated chrome or powder-coated black finish, each C-stand comes as a kit with an included grip head and grip arm, and the two grip accessories are also sold separately.
