A year after rehauling its lineup of outdoor, portable monolights, Westcott is releasing a new entry-level option for on-location photography, the FJ250 250Ws Touchscreen Strobe.
Shipping with the same FJ Pro AC/DC battery as its FJ400 II and FJ800 counterparts, the company claims its latest light offers more than 850 full-power flashes per charge—which Westcott claims is best-in-class. Industry-leading recycle times, high color accuracy, and a native Bowens mount make the new FJ250 an appealing choice for photographers seeking to build up or round out a mobile lighting setup.

The improved, nine-stop range power efficiency translates to longer single-charge sessions, with .01 to .9s recycle times ensuring the decisive moment is never missed. High-speed sync is supported at shutter speeds of up to 1/8000s, and its action-stopping Freeze Mode boasts flash durations of up to 1/29,600s at up to 50 fps.
The FJ250 is also the lightest-weight strobe in the lineup at just 4.2 lb.
The new light inherits the same easy-to-use OLED touchscreen for quick setting adjustments, including access to the Creative Mask feature to pre-program up to six lighting combinations in multi-light setups, benefiting high-volume, fast-paced shoots. A 12W bi-color modeling light allows users to previsualize the lighting design, and the fixture integrates seamlessly with Westcott’s 2.4 GHz FJ wireless system.
The FJ250 comes in a variety of kits, including one and two-light FJ250 backpack kits and a portable two-light FJ400 II and FJ250 kit. A replacement flash tube for the strobe is also available.
Westcott is also releasing a slew of kits and accessories for its other products, including a backpack kit for the L120-B bi-color moonlight, a Bowens to Profoto speed ring adapter, FlexiGels for Godox strobes, and rubberized Bumper Guard Kits for the new FJ-TI wireless trigger.
