Atomos Announces the ZATO CONNECT Networked Encoder with 5" Monitor

B&H is excited to introduce a new addition to the Atomos CONNECT accessory line with the ZATO CONNECT, a compact streaming encoder that enables any HDMI or USB device to stream to the Internet while recording and monitoring the stream simultaneously on a built-in, incredibly bright touchscreen display. This ultra-compact device can fit right into productions of any size such as events, meetings, houses of worship, or classrooms, and it can connect to just about any web camera or computer for livestreaming.

Making Connections

The ZATO inputs video up to 1080p60 via HDMI or 1080p30 via USB, and it allows you to mix embedded audio, adjust levels, and even embed analog audio via mic/line inputs. It also sports several output options, including built-in Wi-Fi 5, Gigabit Ethernet connectivity by way of an included USB Type-C dongle, HDMI to a second display, and USB output to a computer with UVC support for use as a webcam. It supports Atomos Cloud Studio, RTMP/RTMPS streaming, and connecting to services like Skype, Zoom, and Teams via a computer.

Recording, Playback, and Effects

Unlike the original CONNECT, that requires a Shogun monitor, the ZATO CONNECT features its own built-in SuperAtom 5.2" IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 1000 cd/m2 brightness for use in any indoor or outdoor environment. The display runs AtomOS Lite software, which provides plenty of image tools to help monitor your program, such as 2x zoom, 9-UP grid, horizontal/vertical flip, and frame guides. To monitor the audio output, plug in to the 3.5mm headphone jack on the side.

An SD card slot on the side allows you to record your program output to MP4 files using the high-quality H.264 codec onto optional UHS-I SD cards with up to 128GB capacity. The AtomOS software also provides program playback onto the display, audio mixing, graphic overlays, and supports adding effects to your production.

Power and Form

The lightweight chassis is made from durable plastic and weighs only 8.6 oz out of the box, making it a great addition as a handheld director's monitor or a main streaming encoder for a studio production. Powering the monitor is easy using its built-in L-series battery plate on the back, or it can utilize an external power source such as AC or D-Tap using its USB Type-C PD input or an optional dummy battery with a 2.1mm DC barrel input.
