The eagerly awaited updates to the most popular Atomos on-camera recording monitors are finally here: the new Ninja 5.2" Recording Monitor and Ninja Ultra 5.2" Recording Monitor. These impressive successors to the Ninja V and V+ are compact, rugged 5.2" monitors built for the rigors of production, providing a solid yet lightweight on-camera display with powerful built-in tools and 10-bit HDR support.
Both monitors retain the form factor of the original Ninja V/V+ models, enabling them to work with all existing accessories, such as the Master Caddy II / III, the AtomX Cast, and the Atomos Connect. They also retain their 1000 cd/m2 brightness for indoor/outdoor use, durable aluminum chassis, and HDMI input from all the latest cameras, from small mirrorless to professional cinema models.
What they gain is the newest AtomOS 11 software, a fast processor, and support for internal raw recording at high resolutions and frame rates. AtomOS 11 is redesigned for faster navigation, a fresh look, new icons, better memory management, a more responsive interface, and a seemingly endless list of features such as vectorscopes, HLG/PQ previewing, false color, and more. The firmware also allows you to set up advanced recording and playback with the RecordAssist and PlayBackAssist tools.
Ninja Monitor
The lightweight 5.2" Ninja inherits its form from the Ninja V, it provides one HDMI input up to 4K60, and it can record in multiple formats including ProRes, DNxHD, and H.265/HEVC. It features the AtomOS 11 software, adding a recording option in ProRes raw to record up to 6K30 from compatible cameras.
Ninja Ultra Monitor
The Ninja Ultra is also a 5.2" monitor with the same form factor as the Ninja+, and with it you can capture up to 8K30, 6K60, or 4K120 in ProRes raw. Also, when using the optional Atomos Connect, the Ultra can record raw files over SDI, simultaneously record dual raw files for internal recording, and it supports cloud connectivity in 4K60 raw and H.265 formats. Additionally, it features the AtomOS 11 software update with all the new tools, as well as a new feature to match filenames over SDI for ARRI, Canon, RED, and Sony cameras.
Add-On Options
Many of the new AtomOS features have been enhanced or are newly added to support the optional Atomos Connect and AtomX Cast modules. With Atomos Connect, it supports the latest Wi-Fi 6E protocols, so you can share your screen using the RemoteView app. With the added SDI connectivity of the Connect and AtomX expansion, you can add 12G-SDI input/output, timecode, enhanced metadata, remote control, 1Gb Ethernet connectivity, and even set up your monitor streams on an NDI 4K network as a drop-in node. The Connect also provides a gateway to the Atomos Cloud―record and share your 4K60 raw files and H.265/HEVC streams globally using the new 4K C2C mode.
