Tamron has introduced a new short-telephoto prime destined for capturing stunning portraits and intricate macro shots. Designed for Sony E- and Nikon Z-mount mirrorless camera systems, the 90mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Macro Lens brings together a life-size 1:1 maximum magnification ratio and a beneficial 9.1” minimum focusing distance to enable efficient close-up photography.
This is the brand’s first lens to feature a 12-blade circular diaphragm, creating particularly round bokeh, minimized vignetting, and 12 rays of starburst when stopped down. Sporting a fairly lightweight and compact build, this prime lens weighs 1.4 lb and measures 5” long, allowing you to comfortably shoot handheld for extended shooting times and pack away without being slowed down.
Precision focusing is assured with the lens’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor, which delivers reliable subject tracking and suppresses drive noise, meeting the demands of both photo and video applications. Also benefitting autofocus performance is a focus limiter switch that restricts the AF range and prevents the lens from aimlessly searching throughout its full focusing reach. This will save you time and spare you the stress of struggling to get your lens to zero in on your desired subject.
A newly designed lens hood features a sliding window for seamless filter rotation without removing the hood. Compatibility with Tamron Lens Utility software is supported, allowing you to easily change lens settings, assign custom camera functions, and update lens firmware.
The pairing of a sleek build and intuitive features makes the 90mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Macro lens a welcome addition to Tamron’s growing selection of prime lenses for mirrorless systems and fills a focal length gap with it being on the telephoto end as opposed to the brand’s previous wide-angle releases.
