Atlas Lens Co. Announces Wider Mercury 1.5x Anamorphic Focal Lengths

Atlas Lens Co. Announces Wider Mercury 1.5x Anamorphic Focal Lengths

Atlas Lens Co. is known throughout the film and television industry for high-quality anamorphic lenses, and their Mercury series is proving especially popular due to its full-frame coverage, fast T2.2 aperture, and dependable 1.5x squeeze factor. Atlas is expanding the line with the addition of a 24mm, 27mm, and 32mm, filling out the wider end and complementing the existing 36mm, 42mm, 54mm, 72mm, 95mm, and 138mm.

These new focal lengths are available with metric or imperial markings, and feature the same professional specs as the rest of the series—ARRI PL mount, 0.8 MOD gearing, 95mm front diameter. The stretch of an anamorphic lens gives you a much more expansive horizontal field of view than traditional spherical lenses, so it’s rare and exciting to see top-tier anamorphics with these wider focal lengths.

For those unfamiliar with the Mercury series, expect a warmer, more “vintage” look than Atlas Lens Co.’s Orion series, with golden flares and pronounced oval bokeh. Unlike many vintage and budget anamorphics, the Mercury lenses have nearly no chromatic aberration, making them a popular choice for modern high-resolution cameras. The lenses are also quite compact for anamorphics, with most coming in at around 3 lb.
