Third-party accessory manufacturer SmallRig is announcing the release of two dedicated grips for the Sigma BF Mirrorless Camera, one each for its black and silver colorways. The L-Shaped Mount Plate with Handle for the Sigma BF is SmallRig’s innovation in response to the camera’s obstinate design minimalism and will be a welcome accessory for everyday users.
Praised as the BF was for its Apple-core chic, it was also derided for its inability to be held, and the new grip seeks to improve the camera’s ergonomics without disrupting its unique look. It also adds Arca-type and other mounting options without sacrificing access to the camera’s USB-C port.
SmallRig is also expanding their lighting options with the launch of a new compact flash unit, the RS20 mini Speedlite. It’s the company’s first foray into on-camera flash units, having already established themselves in the continuous lighting space for some time. The portable, manual control unit is distinguished by its ability to shoot more than 500 max-power flashes with an ultra-fast, .1 to 1.8s recycling time range. The RS20 will appeal to photographers who want a powerful, lightweight, and affordable entry into flash photography.
The RS20 mini Speedlite weighs a mere 3.5 oz and is designed to provide a powerful output with a minimal footprint both atop your camera and inside your bag. Its 39.4’ guide number offers eight stops of light output with 22 levels of adjustment (1/1 to 1/128), and the unit features an OLED screen to view and adjust settings.
The flash has a universal single-contact hot shoe design, making it compatible with most mirrorless cameras. In addition to the 500 full-power flashes, the USB-C rechargeable internal battery can fuel up 10,000 at its minimum output setting. The ultrafast .1s recycling time is also for this minimum output setting, with the 1.8s interval required for the full-power flash.
Optical slave modes are also available, allowing the RS20 to be triggered remotely with a built-in flash or used in multi-light setups.
