Canon Releasing CR-N400 and CR-N350 4K60p PTZ Cameras with 20x Zoom

As the market for remotely controllable PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras continues to grow, Canon keeps pace, now introducing the CR-N400 and CR-N350, both available in black or white. These 4K60 professional PTZ cameras have a 20x zoom, built-in wireless video protocols, and 1/2.3” CMOS sensors with hybrid autofocus. Other notable features include optical image stabilization, auto-tracking, a range of Canon color profiles, and real-time cropping for social media.

The CR-N350 features a 3G-SDI and an HDMI output for those who want to go wired, or wireless video support via RTSP/RTP, RTMP/RTMPS, NDI HX2, standard IP, and more. The camera can be controlled via Canon’s XC Protocol or traditional serial commands, and it supports PoE++ (power over ethernet) or power via its DC input. There’s also a 3.5mm audio input and a DIGIC DV 7 image processor. Software -wise, expect Canon’s Auto Tracking Lite out of the box, plus 40x enhanced digital zoom when shooting in full HD. Supported color spaces include Wide DR, Canon Log 3, HDR, and EOS Neutral Image Modes. The camera also supports the FreeD protocol for use with AR and VR systems.

The CR-N400 has all that and more, adding a 12G-SDI video output, genlock via BNC, time code via a separate BNC, and dual XLR inputs for higher fidelity audio. The 12G-SDI output supports 4K60 video, while the 3G-SDI output on both cameras is capped at full HD. Genlock and time code are also essential features for professional multi-camera environments that require frame accurate syncing. No matter which model you go with, expect Canon’s reliable hybrid autofocus with face, eye, and head detection, alongside smooth and accurate panning and tilting, even at high speeds.

Canon’s computer-based Remote Camera Control Application and phone-based Multi-Camera Control App work with either model to create position presets and crop into areas of the image that users want separately streamed or recorded (think customized social media variations in real time, including vertical 9:16 crops). Additional popular Canon PTZ software includes their Camera Color Matching Application and Multi-Camera Management Application that can manage up to 200 cameras at a time. Both cameras also support UVC functionality via their USB-C ports.

Whether you’re building out a studio, live event setup, or house of worship stream, the CR-N400 and CR-N350 should prove exciting propositions. For more information about these new Canon PTZ cameras, including features, specs, and highlights, be sure to check out their detailed product pages.
