Anamorphic options continue to grow more compact and affordable with the new DZOFilm Arcana T2.1 primes. These PL-mount lenses feature a 1.5x squeeze and are available in 32mm, 45mm, 75mm, or as a set with all three. The Arcana primes promise full frame sensor coverage with dramatic oval bokeh and anamorphic flares that mirror the color of the light source.
The Arcana lenses have 14 aperture blades and use extra-low dispersion and high-refraction elements to maintain sharpness even when wide open. The three lenses are matched nearly identical in size and weight for easy swaps, coming in at around 1.5 lb and 3.1” in length. Expect 80mm front diameters and 77mm filter threads, with generous 270° focus rotations.
Minimum focus is 1.6’ on the 32mm, 1.7’ on the 45mm, and 2.6’ on the 75mm—not bad for anamorphics—and the image circle is ø43.3mm (36mm × 24mm). The Arcana lenses have a titanium finish, 0.8 MOD gears for focus and iris, and are impressively small for having a 1.5x-squeeze. They should prove popular for nimble crews, gimbal work, and anyone wanting wallet-friendly anamorphic offerings.
