B&H Photo News Roundup: Week of June 25, 2023

We have some interesting news to share with you in this week's roundup. Insta360 is releasing the GO 3 Action Cam and Hollyland is releasing a higher-end LARK MAX wireless mic system. Additionally, there a few smaller items to discuss, including new RGB LED bulbs from Godox.

Insta360 upgrades ultra-tiny action cam line with the GO 3

The Insta360 GO 3 is the smallest action camera around. Its size lets you place it where other cameras won't fit, allowing you to capture creative footage. This version also has some solid upgrades that make its videos even better.

This upgraded model offers higher-resolution video, up to 2.7K, with its ultra-wide field of view. It also weighs just 1.2 oz, making it easy to mount pretty much anywhere. A magnet system lets you snap it easily into place.

It features FlowState Stabilization, which eliminates those pesky shakes and bumps in your footage, while a horizon lock keeps your video level no matter what you do.

Ease of use should make it fun for everyday recordings, and Voice Control 2.0 allows you to keep your hands on task and not miss a shot. A small button on the front is there to start recording quickly, even when the GO 3 is turned off.

Regarding accessories, it comes with a couple of mounting options and the Action Pod. The GO 3 snaps into this larger unit and provides advantages such as a flip-out screen and much longer battery life. If you are looking for more traditional action-cam features and are fine giving up the size advantage, this is an interesting little device, and I can envision many people having fun with it.

Hollyland reveals an advanced LARK MAX wireless system

There has been no shortage of wireless audio systems in the past few years and now, Hollyland is expanding its offerings with the LARK MAX. This is a 2.4GHz option meant for content creators, but it comes with some very nice upgrades compared to the brand's other offerings.

A key point to focus on is audio quality―and the LARK MAX seems to deliver on this point. A bonus is that it supports internal audio recording, meaning you won't have to worry about losing some audio if you encounter interference or other disruptions. It offers a few recording modes, although the coolest is the safety track setting, which will record one track at a lower dB setting to make sure you don't accidentally clip your audio.

There is also an environmental noise cancellation setting that helps reduce the impact of certain noises, such as air conditioning or background hum from electronics. This could help you capture cleaner audio.

The device itself is quite compact and there is a bespoke case for charging all the transmitters and receiver. The individual components have color screens to view settings, along with buttons and dials that are designed intuitively.

This appears to be a great new option in a competitive market.

Godox enters bulb market with C7R and C10R KNOWLED lights

Practicals and environmental lighting can help elevate the lighting for a scene, so you'll want to make sure the light bulbs you use are able to deliver exactly what you want. For this purpose, we can turn to the Godox C7R and C10R KNOWLED RGB Creative Light Bulbs.

These may look similar to the bulbs you would pick up at a local home improvement store, but they will perform more like your film and video lights. These bulbs feature full RGB color control and a wide color temperature range of 2000-10000K. You'll be able to get the exact look you want by dialing-in the settings using an app or on-board controls.

Powering the bulbs is simple. An internal battery frees you from household current, or you can power the bulb with an E26/E27 socket or via the USB-C port. It's a neat option to add to your lighting kit.
