The MA2 Twin Light delivers close-up lighting like you’ve never seen before with dual flexible arms and hot shoe expansions. Simply manipulate the arm to the direction of your liking, and shoot. No elaborate rigs, no additional brackets, just attach the compact flash units to your camera and start shooting. Note that the load capacity of each flexible arm is 3 oz, more than enough for the compact flash units included.
Speaking of the lights: let’s talk about the practical coaxial design. This design choice puts both LED modeling light and flash on the same axis, which makes it easier to preview light direction and focusing before you take the shot. For even greater control, both the left and right light sources can be adjusted independently, offering single-sided or dual-sided fill.
When in either flash or modeling LED mode, the color temperature can be adjusted across a range of 2800K to 6500K. Whether it be for macro video shooters or for focus assistance, the ability to match angle and color temperature cannot be understated, as it allows the photographer/creator to better visualize the final shot. All of those tech specs sound great, but what’s the battery life like? When the brightness output is set to 100%, users can get approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes of runtime.
Included with this lighting kit are two MAO2-D magnetic diffusion panels, which quickly snap into place and soften your light output. This is essential to creating that evenly spread look to your lighting, and extremely helpful when working with reflective or textured subject matter. Alternatively, users can opt for the separately available MAO2-DB diffuser box, which keeps the form factor even more compact.
Of course, we can’t wrap things up without mentioning some other optional accessories the MA2 will be released with. Probably the most exciting is the MCL-250 Macro Conversion Lens, which offers 2.5x magnifications for lens with a 49mm to 67mm front filter thread helping standard kit lenses closer for macro images. This can be paired with the MCL-D lens diffuser to reduce harsh shadows and hot spots.
