When you head off into the field, you don’t always need a backpack to carry all of your camera stuff—sometimes you have to bring supplies, clothing, and camping gear. Conversely, sometimes you do need to carry your camera gear and not the kit for an overnight stay somewhere. Usually, for these two scenarios, you need to invest in two different bags. f-stop created a modular packing system that allows you to tackle these challenges with a single bag. The f-stop bag is a rugged camping/mountaineering/adventure pack that can swallow a bunch of gear but, if you are bringing camera equipment into the field and need it protected, you can insert one or several Internal Camera Units (ICU) into the pack. The bags fall into two umbrellas—the Mountain Series and Ultralight Series. The Mountain Series are heavy-duty packs ranging in size from the 80L Shinn to the 32L Lotus. The Ultralight Series is bookended by the 37L Loka and the 25L Guru. The Mountain and Ultralight bags may be purchased separately or bundled with different ICU configurations and accessory options. Accessories include packing cubes, pouches, straps, and more. A third line, the Urban Series, contains both backpacks and messenger bags for the photographer more familiar with pavement than the trail. The ICUs are not compatible with the Urban Series but, in line with the brand’s modular configurations, each Urban Series bag has a removable padded insert for protecting camera gear.
