The NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S lens, a portrait prime, has just arrived for the Nikon Z Series. Continuing to fill out the fledgling full-frame mirrorless lens lineup, this 85mm should be much appreciated by adopters of the Z 6 or Z 7. It also completes what I think is a versatile trio of f/1.8 lenses, by joining the 35mm and 50mm lenses that were announced when the system was initially launched. Keeping with the f/1.8 tradition helps minimize size and weight without compromising on the optics. This means it will be a sharp, effective lens for portraits, weddings, and much more.
The 85mm f/1.8 matches the other lenses in the lineup because it uses specialized elements to minimize aberrations. A stepping motor provides a smooth, fast AF system for both stills and video. Also, there is a programmable Control Ring that can be set for focus, aperture control, or exposure compensation. This looks to be another solid Z-mount lens.
