Polaroid Originals Stranger Things Edition: For Capturing those Stranger Moments

0Share

Just when you thought you were saved from the Upside Down, Polaroid Originals brings you the Stranger Things Edition i-Type Camera and instant film. The original OneStep Polaroid camera, from 1977 (for those of you who may remember the 1970s), was the inspiration for the design of this analog instant camera. However, in an homage to its television-series namesake, the camera features a design like that iconic Polaroid of yesteryear, except for the fact that it is… that's right—upside down. Think of it: perfect for bringing along into the Upside Down in your town.

The camera (6 x 4.3 x 3.7", L x W x H) is finished in the red and blue theme colors of the TV program, as a salute to the crazy universe of Stranger Things. The body of this camera is constructed from polycarbonate and ABS plastics. It's light! At 15.5 ounces (440 grams) you won't strain yourself toting this strange memory collector around all day or all evening, to school or your favorite friend's pool party.

The optical-grade, 106mm coated lens is made from the same materials, and offers a field of view of 41 degrees vertically, and 40 degrees horizontally. It focuses from two feet (0.6m) to infinity (and beyond). You can capture evidence of your strange adventures in daylight, low light, or as the holiday lights flicker, thanks to the camera's powerful built-in tube flash, and all fed by an onboard, high-performance lithium-ion battery that boasts a 60-day life and charges via USB cable. The camera is easy to use and even has a self-timer, so you can set it and get into a selfie with your local Demogorgon. You can capture your images on i-Type or 600 film.

Along with the release of this new eerie and fun camera, of course, is an instant color film to complement it. Specific locations from the fictional town of Hawkins, IN, were the impetus for the i-Type Stranger Things Edition Color Film. From what we can tell, the prints have a soft, desaturated look, like vintage Polaroid prints from the late 1970s, and the soft, ethereal look of many of the shots in the TV series. It is available with a variety of frame designs and is battery free, powered by the camera. But take heed: this ISO 640 film is compatible with all i-Type instant cameras, but not with vintage Polaroid cameras. When not in use, it's best to store your instant film in the refrigerator and let it warm to room temperature before you start capturing.

Each pack contains eight instant photos, which develop fully in 10-15 minutes. Polaroid Originals advises stranger photographers to protect the emulsion from light as the image develops, and not to bend or shake the prints. The film format is 4.2 × 3.5" (107mm × 88mm), with a smaller print area of 3.1 × 3.1" (79mm × 79mm) square. The print finish will be glossy when fully developed, but soft and mysterious in color and contrast.
