Fun and Creative Gifts for Kids

When it comes to getting the perfect gift for a special kid in your life, there’s little room for error. Sure, kids can find joy in all sorts of things, but you don’t want to be remembered as the guy who got them socks last holiday.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or family friend, we’ve got you covered. In this guide, we’ve put together a list of some of the most popular kid-friendly gift ideas, from cameras to other fun and exciting gadgets.

Kid-Friendly Digital Cameras

One of the most kid friendly cameras at B&H is the AgfaPhoto Realikids Cam 2, a simple point-and-shoot camera that comes in pink or blue. This camera features a built-in rechargeable battery and sports a large screen and big, easy-to-use buttons. It’s simple, accessible, and yes, it includes a wrist strap. For those interested in tech specs, the Cam 2 delivers 12MP still photos and can record video in 720p HD quality.

Instant Cameras

The classic instant camera has long been a popular gift item for kids of all ages, and the FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI 13 might just be the most iconic in recent memory. Sure, the Polaroid name still carries some weight, but when it comes to ease of use and fun designs, FUJIFILM has taken the crown. These cameras are colorful and produce a small (or “mini”) credit-card-sized image. They feature a handy selfie mirror and are powered by the two included AA batteries.

FUJIFILM also makes the instax Pal 2, a small retro-style digital camera that can be used on its own or paired with one of the manufacturer’s dedicated Bluetooth printers—e.g., the Link WIDE 2 Printer. Simply take an image and print it instantly via a wireless connection. This printer, along with others from FUJIFILM, can also be paired with smartphones, giving them even more use cases.

Keychain Cameras

Another fun albeit different type of camera is the keychain camera. These new, collectible cameras come in fun designs like the Snoopy-themed Yashica Funtastic Keychain Camera. This tiny, pocketable digital camera doesn’t quite offer the same level of fun as the previous two models, but it makes up for that in portability. As a keychain, this camera can be worn on a belt or hung off of a backpack. The images it delivers are equally unique, harkening back to the early digital look of grain and pixelated details.

For added fun, Kodak’s similar Charmera Keychain Camera comes in two series of blind boxes. One series is styled after the 1987 Kodak Fling film camera, and the other based on early Y2K-era digital point and shoots. Both the original and millennium series offer 7 unique designs, including one rare color scheme.

Drones

Cameras are a great bit of fun, but we can unlock even more creative potential when we make one fly. Drones are one of the most popular imaging tools currently around, and while they can be quite the undertaking, Contixo designed one with young and beginner pilots in mind. The F15 Astro Drone offers many of the same features as larger drones, in a smaller, less expensive package. The remote controller offers a large, 2.4” display and the propellers are shielded behind guards to keep those fingers safe. The battery life offers up to 6 minutes of flight time, and both landing and takeoff are easy with one touch control.

iPad Cases

If you’re entrusting your kids with an iPad, you may as well make it fun to look at. The Belkin Disney Pixar Toy Story iPad A16 Case, modeled after the character Lilypad, is compatible with 11” iPad 10th and 11th generation tablets. From a practical standpoint, it offers additional protection for the tablet and is constructed of durable and non-toxic materials while maintaining a soft, rounded design for safety. Additionally, the case features a built-in handle and kick stand so it can be used almost anywhere. Now, it doesn’t talk or come to life like the real Lilypad, but if it does, we suggest calling your local religious leader.

Binoculars

While there are certainly plenty of other ways to enjoy media, we feel most kids won’t resonate with something like a cassette player box set with Elvis’s Christmas album. Instead, when they’re not playing on their devices, they should be outside. What better tool is there for experiencing the outdoors than a trusty pair of binoculars. Our pick is the Apexel 8x21 Kids Binoculars. These colorful binoculars are a great entry level pair for kids looking to get into bird watching or general outdoor enjoyment. These are durable, offer 8x magnification for distant observation, and are available in both blue and orange. Go Knicks!

For something with a little more gusto, we recommend the Vortex 6.5x32 Bantam HD Youth Binoculars. These rugged bins not only offer a more subtle design but introduce your fledgling outdoor enthusiast to the greater Vortex system. They are, after all, one of the most popular optics makers out there. Speaking of optics, these binoculars will offer greater clarity than the Apexel binoculars, as well as a more high-end feel, which is great if you anticipate your youngster growing with them.

Microscope Kits

For the curious mind, there’s no greater gift than one that allows them to explore. Binoculars are great for the general outdoors, but for a closer look, something like the Barska Microscope Explorer Kit is a great gift. The kit includes a compact compound monocular microscope with a specimen stage and a collection of essential and fun accessories. Note that this kit does come with a scalpel, so adult supervision is advised.
