Although it is only one of many among Nikon’s currently available lenses, photographers across the photo spectrum will attest that the AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens not only provides opportunities to capture unique perspectives, but is one of Nikon’s most versatile options in its optics lineup. However, for any photographer who needs or prefers to apply filters while they shoot, the large, outward-curving front element and integrated hood prevent screw-on filters from being used. To solve this problem, the Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder has been designed to fit onto the AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens and delivers the ability to use filters 150mm wide and 2mm thick. Far larger than the lens’s front element, such 150mm-wide filters avoid vignetting and are available in many varieties, including neutral densities, polarizers, and color effects.
Insert the mounting foam into the holder.
If it doesn't slide into the holder easily, turn the foam 1/4 turn for the proper orientation.
The Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder includes three pairs of filter slots and six mounting screws. Two pairs of the filter slots are preinstalled on the filter holder using four of the screws. This configuration accommodates two filters, but should you want to use three filters, a 5/64 flat-bladed screwdriver, which is not included, can be used to remove the mounting screws to add the remaining pair of slots. After you have decided on how many pairs of slots you wish to use and have screwed them into place, the Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder is ready to be installed on an AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens.
Place the filter on a flat surface so that it's resting on the foam and the lens mount is facing up.
Loosen the locking knobs on either side of the holder.
Installing the lens is simple: place the filter holder on a flat surface with its slots facing down and the 14-24mm will slide right in. To ensure that the lens is not placed so far into the holder that its integrated hood ends up blocking any filters, a foam mounting square is included. This foam square is designed to protect the filter slots when they are not in use and is precisely cut so it acts as a stopper for the lens’s hood as it slides into the holder. Once the hood comes into contact with the mounting foam, you can then tighten the two locking knobs on the sides of the holder that work with the silicone friction strips to prevent the holder from inadvertently slipping off. The Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder is now installed and perfectly positioned.
With the lens holder still on the flat surface, place the lens down into the holder.
Make sure the holder and the lens are aligned by lining up the top of the lens and the Sensei Pro logo.
After sliding the mounting foam out, the AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens is ready to be attached to the camera. While in use, flare is limited, as the space between the closest installed filter slot and the holder measures only 2mm. Also, the Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder can be rotated 360° for filters whose use may require varied positioning, such as when lining up a graduated ND to match a horizon line.
Securely tighten the two locking knobs simultaneously.
Once the knobs are secure, remove the mounting foam.
By itself, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED lens provides a means to capture images that in many situations would not otherwise be possible. But, with the Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder, photographers will now be able to use filters so they no longer have to make any compromises when creating their shot.
Install a filter into the holder by sliding it into position between the film clips.
Due to the snug fit, the filter may have to be slightly jiggled to glide into the clips.
