One of the most widely appreciated niche lenses in Sony’s lineup, the FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS is Sony’s take on the classic short-telephoto macro prime. It offers life-size 1:1 maximum magnification and 11" minimum focusing distance to suit working with close-up subjects, along with a purpose-built form that includes focusing and magnification scales on the lens barrel. Optically, it uses aspherical and low-dispersion elements to cut aberrations and color fringing and a Nano AR coating that suppresses flare. The Direct Drive SSM offers precise AF performance and OSS helps to reduce the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting.
Applications: Considering “Macro” is in the lens’s name, it’s clear this lens is intended for close-up, high magnification shooting with its 1:1 reproduction ratio and short minimum focusing distance. In a pinch, the 90mm focal length will also work for portraiture and other applications requiring a short-tele look.
