Detuned Looks for Signature Lenses with ARRI Impression V Filters

0Share

Add an intriguing look of classic glamour or nitty-gritty drama to your footage using ARRI’s new Impression V Filters for Signature Prime and Zoom lenses. Unlike traditional, front-mount diopters (close-focus filters), the Impression V filters alter the character of background highlights, creating customized, detuned looks with decided emotional characteristics. These magnetic rear-mount filters are divided into positive and negative lines, with each available in a series of four gradually stronger versions.

Choose the full-range Impression V Filter Kit to get each of the four positive and the four negative filters, or select 3-filter sets of V 070P, V 140P, V 230P, V 330P, V 050N, V 100N, V 200N, or V 290N for multicamera use or to leave a filter mounted on each of your most-used lenses. Use the Impression V filters at T1.8 for the strongest effect and to maintain focus scale accuracy. The full set comes in a dedicated aluminum case and includes a shim set with tools and a set of hook-and-loop labels for identifying each filter.

Positive Impression V Filters

The positive Impression V filters are available in IV 070P, IV 170P, IV 230P, and IV 330P versions, with the strength increasing with the filter numbers. Featuring “Christmas ball bokeh” with brighter centers and blurry edges, the positive filters boost the Signature lenses’ remarkably soft bokeh with a swirling effect that wraps around subjects to create an intimate feel. Use the positive Impression V filters to add a gentle glow to skin tones and a sense of glamour to the entire image that recalls the look of classic Hollywood films.

Negative Impression V Filters

Like those of their positive counterparts, the effects of the negative IV 050N, IV 100N, IV 200N, and IV 290N filters are more pronounced at the higher end. The negative filters produce sharper, vibrant backgrounds with donut-shaped bokeh and highlights that sport darker centers with brighter edges. The highlights overlap each other instead of blending, producing abstract textures with a dynamic or even unsettling feel. The negative filters require a shim set for mounting; a set of shims and tools is included with the full Filter Kit and with each 3-filter kit.
