Encroaching on the territory usually reserved for broadcast-style box lenses that you see at sporting events, the Canon Cine-Servo 50 to 1000mm T5.0 – T8.9 Lens is a 20x zoom lens for Super 35mm sensors. It features ENG-style zoom, focus, and iris control. About the same size and weight as Canon’s other Cine-Servo zooms, it maintains the same features, such as the detachable drive unit and 11-bladed iris. This ensures that if you need to zoom out to the limit of this lens, your footage will still intercut well with the other Cine-Servo zooms.
However, if 1000mm on Super 35 is not long enough for you, the lens features a built-in 1.5x extender, providing you with a jaw-dropping 75 to 1500mm zoom range, with the same crisp, sharp image you’ve come to expect with the Cine-Servo lenses. The lens features the best of both worlds (ENG and Cine) with built-in flange adjustment, a fully closing iris, and discrete cine-style drive gears. In spite of the lens’s great length, the focus ring travels only 180 degrees of rotation, enough rotation for accurate pulls, without forcing your puller to endlessly rotate the lens from close-focus to far.
The lens incorporates standard broadcast 12-pin interface connectors and supports virtual image data output, while communicating with a Cinema EOS camera through the lens interface. Available in Canon EF or ARRI PL mount versions, you can have the mounts swapped at an authorized Canon service facility. So, if you need an extremely long cine-style zoom lens that works equally as well as an ENG lens, this 50 to 1000mm zoom pretty much stands alone in the world of Super35mm-sized sensors.
