Core SWX Announces Powerbase Edge Snap Battery

One of the drawbacks of modern mirrorless and cinema cameras is that they often include a big feature set at the cost of battery life. Feature-rich cameras like the Sony FX3, Canon R5C, and Blackmagic Pocket still rely on paltry, palm-sized batteries that deplete quickly in demanding production environments. To help solve these wattage woes, Core SWX has announced the Powerbase Edge Snap, a stackable, hot-swappable battery that packs plenty of additional juice for your camera and accessories.

One of the most remarkable things about the Edge Snap is its size. Smaller than a paperback book and just as light, the bantam battery is as portable as it is powerful. Despite its compact footprint, the Edge Snap offers 49Wh of power with a max load of 6.5A at 14V. It definitely won't run your new Alexa, but it will have enough of a punch for many smaller mirrorless and cinema cameras, as well as accessories like monitors, transmitters, and FIZ units.

Built with a unique snap-together design (thus the name), each Edge Snap battery features powerful built-in magnets that allow multiple units to be stacked together and used in tandem. Each battery pack can pass power to another unit, meaning you can stack and swap them to keep your gear going without interruption. Stacked batteries can also be charged through a single PD Pro port, which is ideal for when you’ve burnt through a bunch of packs over a long shoot.

Each Snap pack also features a built-in 1/4-20" connection, ideal for adding them to an existing rig. If you want to have a pack directly under your camera, it’s worth picking up a Powerbase EDGE SNAP Battery Quick Release Plate as well. The plate includes multiple 1/4-20" and 3/8-16" anti-rotational connections to keep it secure, and the Quick Release Plate has its own set of built-in magnets that allow you to easily pop Snap packs on and off the bottom of your camera.

If you’ve ever felt disappointed with the runtime of your camera or frustrated having to independently power a bunch of accessories, the Snap might be the perfect solution.
