Awards are nice: the recognition of your peers, the domination of your competitors—it all makes for a lovely feeling when you have succeeded so well with an important product that it receives industry acclaim. The EIZO ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 HDR Reference Monitor is one of those products, and it recently won the prestigious 2020 Hollywood Professional Association Award for Engineering Excellence.

EIZO ColorEdge PROMINENCE CG3146 HDR Reference Monitor

The EIZO CG3146 HDR Reference Monitor features advanced technologies that are at the forefront of innovation for creative visual solutions and tools. These technologies center around the monitor becoming color stable within three minutes of being switched on, as opposed to the 30 minutes that most monitors take. While this allows you to start working sooner, without a long delay for the monitor to “warm up” and become stable, the monitor also remains stable throughout the day, which is a clear advantage over having to recalibrate it repeatedly. When you do need to calibrate the CG3146, it has a built-in sensor, a first for an HDR monitor, which quickly and accurately calibrates the monitor without requiring a third-party calibration device. The Color Navigator 7 Color Management Software makes calibration of the monitor simple, and it is suitable for design, print, photography, and video. A useful feature is that the calibration information is stored locally to the monitor itself, allowing you to use it with multiple PCs without recalibrating.

The monitor incorporates an internal temperature sensor that measures the temperature inside the monitor, while estimating the ambient room temperature. This allows the monitor to adjust to thermal changes in real time to prevent the color accuracy of the monitor from drifting over the course of the day. AI software allows the monitor to distinguish the patterns of the temperature changes for greater accuracy.

The CG3146 HDR Reference Monitor features a 31.1" screen, supports resolutions up to DCI 4K, and has 1000 cd/m2 brightness and a typical contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 for displaying true blacks without losing detail in the highlights. The 10-bit panel can display more than 1 billion colors simultaneously and utilizes EIZO’s Digital Uniformity Equalizer (DUE), which corrects deviations in every tone across the entire screen, for a more accurate display.

The monitor is equipped with a single link 12G-SDI input that also supports 6G, 3G, and HD-SDI video signals. In addition to the 12G-SDI input, the monitor supports Dual- and Quad-Link 3G/HD-SDI connectors for 4K video, as well as HDMI and Display Port inputs. The monitor comes with a magnetically attached hood that helps prevent glare from the surrounding environment.
