On the heels of the AK2000 and AK4000, Feiyu has released the AK4500 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer, which offers a higher payload of 10 lb and adds a few new features. It incorporates a rear handle that lets you easily switch to underslung mode. The weight of the gimbal and camera rest suspended below the new handle, allowing you to comfortably maneuver the gimbal when capturing low angles. Besides being useful for underslung operation, the rear handle also provides an additional point of support for all other modes.
The rear handle has a two-part design. It consists of a bracket that attaches to the rear of the gimbal, and a wireless remote control that secures to the bracket to function as a handgrip. The remote control has an aluminum build with a silica coating, so it feels robust and comfortable in your hand. At the same time, it lets you control basic functions of the gimbal. Furthermore, an included smartphone mount can be attached to top of the remote to support your phone. This way you can have direct access to the companion iOS/Android mobile app. Another major addition to the AK4500 is the ability to switch the camera between landscape and portrait modes.
For scenarios when you don’t need the rear handle, it can be fully removed. The remote control can then be used separately if you’d like, from up to 49' away. Other than with its joystick and control buttons, the remote is capable of controlling the gimbal via sensory motion. Following the movement of your hands, it can control the pan and tilt motions of the gimbal. For example, tilt the remote upwards with your hand, and the gimbal will tilt the camera up. Move your hand faster, the gimbal will tilt faster.
The predecessor AK2000/AK4000 models were introduced at around the same time as a few highly acclaimed, competing gimbals, and they held their own. The new AK4500 transfers over most of their features, including a touchscreen display, a multifunction handwheel, and an angled motor arm that allows for an unobstructed view of your camera screen, allowing you to better monitor the image during operation.
