GoPro is adding to its flagship 360° and action camera lines with the MAX2 and the LIT HERO. With familiar features and valuable upgrades, not to mention a handful of new mounting accessories, both new cameras improve upon the GoPro recording experience.
MAX2 360 Action Camera
Capable of functioning as both a 360° and single-lens action camera, the MAX2 pairs the versatility of its predecessor with an 8K video output. The MAX2 can record up to 8K30 360° video in dual-lens mode and up to 4K60 single-lens video. It can also take 29MP 360° photos and 12MP single-lens photos. When you want to reframe your 360° photos or videos, use the GoPro Quik app to get the shot you need. The camera supports 10-bit color and even advanced GP-Log color for enhanced detail.
A wide variety of embedded modes are available with the MAX2, ranging from Super Slo-Mo, TimeWarp, Time-Lapse, and Night-Lapse. The Quik app provides additional digital modes and features like MotionFrame and different CameraFX options. Digital 180° lens options can also be accessed to facilitate Max HyperView, Linear, Wide, Ultra Wide, and Max SuperView recording.
Record matching immersive audio with the camera’s built-in 6-microphone array. Timecode sync allows multiple MAX2 units to communicate with one another for efficient editing of multiple camera views. Integrated Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity allow you to add wireless mics and headphones to your MAX2 configuration, while also wirelessly offloading files to the cloud.
Additional upgrades to the MAX2 include replaceable glass lenses with a water-repelling surface. An expanded Enduro battery is a part of this release, boasting a 1960mAh capacity and familiar cold temperature performance.
LIT HERO Compact Action Camera
Much like the HERO, the LIT HERO features a compact form factor and streamlined design for a simplified recording experience. Where the LIT HERO notably differs is its inclusion of a built-in light. The light features three levels of brightness to work as both a subtle key light or night-time flash. It can even remain on when the camera unit itself is powered off or plugged in and charging.
The LIT HERO can record up to UHD 4K30 video and capture 12MP still photos. You can even grab 11MP photos from your recorded footage using the Quik app. A 60 fps frame rate is unlocked when shooting 2x slow-motion video. Familiar HyperSmooth Stabilization, Voice Control, Wi-Fi connectivity, and rear LCD touchscreen complete the LIT HERO’s hardware features. An upgraded battery keeps the camera running for up to 100 minutes on a single charge without using the integrated light.
Additional Accessories
On top of the flagship camera releases, GoPro has added to its accessory ecosystem with this drop. The new ¼”-20 Mounting Finger Adapter, Locking ¼”-20 Mounting Buckle, and Magnetic Latch ¼”-20 Mount adapt your action camera to support ¼”-20 compatible accessories and make your transitions between handheld and mounted shooting more efficient. A new Carbon Fiber Extension Pole can reach heights up to 40” and is available in a three-pole set for multicamera setups. A Ski Pole Mount adapts the extension pole to fit onto your ski poles for hands-free shooting. If you’re wanting to film watersports, a Floating Extension Pole is also available. Bring the ultracompact Mini Tripod with Ball Head on your next trip for a versatile mounting solution.
Some MAX2 compatible accessories are also included in the launch. A Protective Case keeps the camera and accessories safe during transport. A Lens Set provides you with two replacement lenses. Additionally, a new HERO13 Black bundle is available. The HERO13 Extended Power Bundle equips you with multiple Enduro batteries, a 64GB SD card, a Dual Battery Charger, and a camera case.
