The Panasonic GH6 has made a big splash, and now with firmware version 2.0, available to download now, additional features and frame rate recording capabilities will be available for video makers. Most notable is that RAW video data can now be output over HDMI from the camera. And if that isn’t great enough, Panasonic has also been working with Atomos, so the updated firmware now allows you to record Apple ProRes RAW on the Atomos Ninja V and Ninja V+, with the Ninja V+ able to handle higher frame rates and resolutions up to 5.7K. Version 2.0 of the firmware also expands internal capture abilities of your camera so you can capture 5.7K 30p video internally to a CFexpress Type B card at 1.9 Gb/s at ProRes 4:2:2 HQ 10-bit, as well as DCI 4K (Cinema 4K) at 1.9 Gb/s at ProRes HQ 4:2:2 10-bit, for amazing quality and bit depth that helps you get the most out of your image in post-production.
Additionally, the firmware expands the recording capability of the SD card slot, allowing you to capture Cinema 4K footage as FHD (1920 x 1080) to a compatible SD card. This enables you to use your CFexpress slot for higher data rate footage and create an HD version for quickly loading your footage onto a computer. The new firmware also updates the camera’s interaction with the DJI RS2 and DJI RSC 2 gimbals, so you can use the “Active Track” function. Although not all functions may be available in all situations, this is a great step forward.
Looking forward to the updated GH6? We sure are. How do you plan on taking advantage of the new RAW and internal recording capabilities, as well as the improved gimbal interaction? Please share your thoughts in the Comments section, below.

No record to SSD feature?
Hi Daniel -
The Panasonic GH6 does not feature direct to SSD recording.
Hi! So would you say that the DJI RSC 2 is compatible with the Panasonic GH6? I want to purchase the gimbal but I’m unsure about it’s functionality with the camera.
The DJI RSC 2 can hold a Panasonic GH6 easily, but it functions such as start/stop, still capture or focus are not available.
