The world got a glimpse of a new RED V-RAPTOR camera, in 2022, when the initial V-RAPTOR RHINO 8K S35 model in gray was released. Now, B&H is pleased to announce additions to the lineup: the V-RAPTOR 8K S35 and XL 8K S35 DSMC3 cinema cameras. These large-format cameras and production packs feature a DSMC3 form factor and a large-format 8K sensor with an impressive 16.5+ stops of dynamic range that allow you to capture beautiful detail in shadow and light. Although the 8K S35 and XL 8K S35 support multiple production environments, their ability to create cinematic imagery with a variety of Super 35 cine lenses, and without the specific need for large-format lenses, make them a go-to for film productions.
Focus on Wildlife and Live Events
With support for a wide range of zoom lenses so users can stay far from their subjects while maintaining focus and a sharp image, it’s clear that RED designers had wildlife filmmakers in mind when creating the V-RAPTOR 8K S35. Its aluminum, ultra-compact form factor features a dust- and water-resistant body and ample internal 8K recording capacity to keep a roaming cinematographer’s rig light, protected, and mobile. The camera is also a great addition to live broadcasting for the similar purpose of supporting a wide range of zoom lenses while also providing numerous features such as: shallow depth of field, slow-motion capture, the ability to adjust and crop multiple frame sizes in post from a single capture, and RED Connect live 8K workflows to enhance your production process.
V-RAPTOR 8K S35
Like its gray RHINO sibling, the 8K S35 brain features an RF lens mount that also supports EF and /i PL mount adapters, so you can utilize a wide range of cinema and zoom lenses. The 8K Super 35 sensor captures a 35.4MP image with up to 8192 x 4320 resolution. Its CFexpress card can record data rates up to 800 MB/s, up to 480 fps, at 2K and 120 fps at 8K, and it supports all REDCODE Raw HQ/MQ/LQ raw settings. Monitor support includes dual 12G-SDI outputs and the RED Touch 7" LCD monitor, as well as Wi-Fi live video preview on iOS/Android devices. The camera can also be controlled wirelessly via Wi-Fi or wired via USB-C using the RED Control app. Its other features include genlock, timecode, GPIO, and RS-232, providing a multitude of professional broadcast options. It powers up by using DC input or via the integrated V-mount battery plate.
V-RAPTOR XL 8K S35
The V-RAPTOR XL 8K S35 brain is designed for larger cinema productions and is available in V-Mount and Gold Mount models. It features a larger form factor with an interchangeable PL lens mount that also supports optional EF mount adapters, so you can also utilize a full range of Canon cinema and zoom lenses. The camera features all the same recording, wireless, and 12G-SDI video output features as the 8K S35. It adds 26V support for either V-mount or Gold mount battery plates, built-in motorized ND filters, and built-in Gigabit Ethernet and RS-232 control options. It also provides its own regulated power outputs, including D-Tap, 2-pin, and 3-pin connectors for powering additional accessories.
Production Pack Options
Both cameras are sold on their own, and the XL 8K S35 comes in either V-mount or Gold mount models. They both include a power adapter and the XL 8K S35 also includes a shim pack and an XLR to 4-pin power cable. There are several Starter and Production Packs available, including the camera and additional accessories:
V-RAPTOR 8K S35 Starter Pack: A PRO CFexpress 2TB memory card, a CFexpress card reader, two REDVOLT MICRO-V batteries, a compact dual V-mount charger, a Touch 7.0" LCD monitor, an EXT-to-timecode cable, and a V-RAPTOR wing grip.
V-RAPTOR 8K S35 Production Packs (V-Mount or Gold Mount): Everything in the Starter Kit, but also four MICRO-V or MICRO-G batteries and battery adapters, a tactical top plate, a top handle with extensions, an expander blade, a quick release platform pack, a 5-pin to dual XLR adapter, side ribs, production plates, and production grips.
V-RAPTOR XL 8K S35 Production Packs (V-Mount or Gold Mount): Two PRO CFexpress 2TB cards, a CFexpress reader, four REDVOLT XL batteries, a compact dual battery charger, a Touch 7.0" LCD monitor with hood, a riser plate, a top handle with extensions, a 5-pin to dual XLR adapter, top and bottom 15mm LWS brackets, and an RMI cable.
