Sony is giving a big hand to video shooters with the new RM-DP7 and RM-DP5 cinema line monitor controllers. These 1920 x 1080 7” and 5” monitors have factory-calibrated colors, 2000 nits of brightness, BIG6 setting adjustments, and more. Both feature user-adjustable LUTs, dust and moisture resistance, and assignable buttons alongside a control knob and multi-function dial. They’ll work with the FX5, FX3, FX2, and FX30 at launch, with FX6 and BURANO support to come.
The 7” RM-DP7 is the flagship here, with HDMI in and out, 12G-SDI in and out, a LAN port, a USB-C PD port, a USB-C for data, a DC power input, a headphone jack, and an SD card slot, plus a BP-U battery slot on the back. The monitor supports bi-directional SDI-to-HDMI conversion, ideal for getting an SDI output from HDMI-only camera bodies. The 5” RM-DP5 loses the SDI in and out, as well as the DC input and the second USB-C, but keeps the rest of the feature set. Both include a detachable side handgrip and control knob for focus pulling.
Either monitor can assist solo shooters and small crews with framing, pulling focus, adjusting settings, and working with Sony cinema cameras in difficult-to-reach locations. Users can adjust focus with autofocus lenses, zoom with select power zoom lenses, and exposure for lenses with electronic contacts. The touchscreen functionality supports pinch-to-zoom or double tapping for up to 6x zoom, and a Scopes page has waveform, vectorscope, false color, and zebra displays. The monitors can store up to 16 user LUTs in 17 or 33-point CUBE formats, alongside six pre-installed Sony LUTs.
Camera control works over Ethernet or USB-C, and Sony says the DP7 and DP5 will continuously compensate for chromaticity and color temperature drift over their lifespan. Additional monitoring options include aspect markers, de-squeeze, and peaking. The aluminum housing has a built-in cooling fan for heat dissipation, and the monitors support select third-party wireless transmitters including the Hollyland Pyro Ultra and Teradek Bolt 7.
Both monitors are expected to ship around January 2027.
