After a long wait, BLUESHAPE’s GRANITE MINI batteries are finally available! These batteries condense the advanced connectivity, durability, and maximum draw of the High Rate Discharge GRANITE TWO batteries into a more compact form factor. The smaller chassis allows these batteries not only to fit on size-restricted rigs like gimbals, but also match the modern cinema camera aesthetic. A huge brick battery on the back of a small RED EPIC-W or SCARLET-W sticks out like a sore thumb.
Like the GRANITE TWO series, the GRANITE MINI batteries output 14.4 VDC and support up to a 12-amp continuous draw. They also are offered in V-mount and Gold-mount varieties, and feature two D-tap ports that are bidirectional, meaning that either can be used to provide power or for charging the battery. Both mount types communicate electronically through the mount, and have wide charger compatibility. Smart charging circuitry is built into the batteries, rather than the charger, to prevent overcharging on chargers that lack advanced battery monitoring.
Battery capacity can be checked using the 5-LED gauge on the side. Those interested in more advanced statistics and functionality can use the GRANITE Link Wi-Fi communication. GRANITE LINK provides State of Charge, Expected Time to Empty, Cell Temperature, Remaining Capacity, Full Charge Capacity, and Cycle Count metrics straight to your mobile device. Batteries can also be locked and unlocked using your smartphone or other device running the GRANITE Link app.
Construction-wise, no corners were cut to sacrifice durability. The renowned modular-cage design and assembly methods for preventing catastrophic failure are in place on the inside. Going back to external aesthetics, the Italian design team at BLUESHAPE also decided to offer these batteries with a white casing to match the RED HELIUM cameras, or for those who prefer some contrast in their camera setup. Both the white and the classic granite-colored battery housings sport the same red accents and trim for the labeling, rubber gasket, and rubber D-tap covers.
