Drumroll please… RED DIGITAL CINEMA has now expanded its all-in-one RED RANGER line with two new variations: the RANGER HELIUM 8K S35 and the RANGER GEMINI 5K S35. Acknowledging the practicality of an “out-of-the-box” option preferred by rental houses and by select individual users, these two new camera configurations ship with a shimmed PL mount, multiple video and audio in/out ports, a top handle, the new LCD/EVF Adapter D, and a new 24V AC adapter with block battery compatibility. And to work with your existing supply of batteries, the RED is offering both the Gold-mount and V-mount RANGER HELIUM and both Gold-mount and V-mount RANGER GEMINI options.
From the beginning, RED has been all about modularity, and that broad flexibility is still available in the DMSC2 ecosystem—but now, the RANGER system provides less complex, more standardized options perfect for multicam use, the aforementioned rental house scenario, or any production where operators and camera assistants will appreciate the speed and ease provided by a more uniform lineup. Each of the two new S35 sensor variants is available for purchase by individual creators, while the first RED RANGER camera, the full-frame RED RANGER MONSTRO 8K VV, remains available for purchase by RED-sanctioned rental houses only.
Whether your feature, commercial, or documentary locations demand the flexibility of the dual-sensitivity GEMINI 5K sensor, or you’re going for the lush 8K imaging of the HELIUM 8K, either variant enables you to use the incredible variety of new and existing PL-mount cinema style lenses.
Like the current, stand-alone GEMINI, HELIUM, and MONSTRO DMSC2 cameras, all the RED RANGERs offer robust REDCODE RAW capture with the option of simultaneous proxy capture in ProRes or AVID DNxHD or DNxHR when you’re looking for a quick editing turnaround option. And of course, each RED RANGER also provides the same start-to-finish color management and post process with RED’s IPP2 enhanced imaging processing pipeline.
Physically, the RED RANGERs offer a well-rounded interface stocked with options designed to please pro filmmakers. Three SDI ports enable you to output a total of two looks, enabling your assistant, DIT, and video village to have customized views that best suit their different needs. To make your critical, on-board monitoring as easy as possible, RED has also improved the cable routing for left-side use of the new RED LCD/EVF adapter D.
Power options include a wide-ranging 11.5 to 32V input and RED’s new 24V AC adapter uses a 24V 3-pin XLR cable to link to longer-lasting block batteries that are perfect for cold-weather and extended use setups. To suit the demands of almost any of pro camera accessory, the RANGERs offer two of both 12V and 24V outputs plus a 12V D-Tap port. Additional input/outputs include genlock, timecode, USB, and control ports and to keep your sound mixer happy, a selectable line/mic/+48V 5-pin XLR stereo audio input is built into each RED RANGER.
