Lowerpro has further expanded its foray into the drone projection market with six new cases for several of DJI’s hottest drones. They include a carry case and two backpacks for the Mavic Pro, two backpacks from the Phantom line, and a backpack for the Inspire 1 or 2.
The DJI Mavic Pro quadcopter packs a lot of features and performance into a surprisingly compact frame. Even so, the reality is that you tend to need quite a bit more than just your drone, once all is said and done. The radio controller, spare batteries, charger, spares props, possibly a tablet or computer... the list goes on. Lowepro has thought about this and come up with a case and two backpack options that manage to keep you highly mobile without being forced to leave any essential (or not so essential) gear at home.
The most compact of the three is the DroneGuard CS 150. Smaller than a bread box, this hand-carried case (hence the CS designator) features an adjustable divided interior that accommodates the drone, stock radio controller, an extra battery, spare props, cables, and other small accessories. The exterior features Lowepro’s proprietary FormShell construction to provide robust protection without weighing you down. In fact, empty, the whole case weighs less than a pound.
At the middle of the road—size wise—is the DroneGuard BP 200—“BP,” of course, denoting “backpack.” The main compartment features ample room for your drone, remote controller, up to four spare batteries, plus a bit of space left over for cables and sundries. In addition, the backpack features a separate upper compartment ideal for sunglasses, a folded jacket, possibly even your lunch. To ensure you have your smartphone handy at all times, there is a “PhoneZone” sleeve on one of the shoulder straps that is even spacious enough to accommodate many phablets. You won’t die of thirst either, since there is an external slat pocket for a rehydration pack. Like the CS 150, the BP 200 features FormShell armor, protecting the crucial sections.
Last, but not least, is the largest backpack for the Mavic Pro, the DroneGuard BP 250. In addition to the drone and remote controller, the BP 250 will accommodate up to seven spare batteries, as well as charger and other drone-related accessories. Since the dividers are adjustable, you can also rearrange things if, say, you’re carrying fewer batteries but need room for an action camera or something else. Like the BP 200, the BP 250 features a separate top compartment for sunglasses or other miscellanea, and it likewise provides a convenient sleeve for your outsized smartphone. Where the BP 250 differentiates itself is by foregoing the hydration slat in favor of a laptop compart supporting computers up to 15". Once again you will find FormShell construction to add that extra element of protection.
Phantom Series
For the DJI Phantom line, two new backpacks are being offered. The DroneGuard BP 400 features a flexible divider system that will accommodate up to five spare batteries, the remote controller, and charger/power supply, with room left over for an Osmo, GoPros, or other accessories. The flap features zippered pockets for propellers, filters, and other flat items, while loops help keep your cables neat and organized. There is also space for a 15" laptop or 10" tablet. The case is protected by the same compression-molded FormShell found on its compeers.
For the professional on the move, Lowepro offers the DroneGuard Pro 450. This streamlined backpack is designed to keep all you need at hand without slowing you down. Much like the BP 400, this case accommodates up to five spare batteries, a 15" laptop or 10" tablet with spaces for an Osmo, GoPros, or other accessory items. In addition to the FormShell exterior, it features a honeycomb sidewall design for added stability. The case opens from the body side so it can be laid flat to create a convenient work surface. Removable radio controller and transmitter boxes are provided so you can keep those essentials at hand, even if the backpack itself is away from you. The case includes an All Weather AW Cover that protects gear from rain, dust, and sand.
Inspire 1 / 2
For the Inspire 1 and Inspire 2 models comes the DroneGuard Pro Inspired. The case is styled after a backcountry backpack, featuring a voluminous, lightweight design that is comfortable for extended journeys. The backpack accommodates the Inspire 1 or 2 drone, up to six spare batteries, the radio controller, a smaller tablet, along with other essentials. Unsurprisingly, the Inspired backpack benefits from FormShell protection and includes the All Weather AW Cover for those times when a storm is brewing.
