Here in the Pro Video department, we are happy to share with you SmallHD’s newest on-camera monitor, the INDIE 7 with PageOS 4. Featuring a 7" IPS LED backlit screen, the monitor is suitable for use on interiors and exteriors alike, because its screen has a maximum brightness of 1000 cd/m2. Coupled with its 1000:1 contrast ratio, it produces bright, crisp images that provide valuable image feedback when shooting. Similar to the SmallHD FOCUS 7, the INDIE 7 adds 3G/HD SDI inputs and outputs to the HDMI inputs and outputs that allow for an expanded workflow. It uses 10-bit processing for smooth transitions without aliasing, and the software provides a variety of image display tools to aid you with focus and exposure.
The monitor includes an L-series battery plate for power. A Gold mount or V-mount battery plate are available as separate options, and you can power the monitor via a coaxial barrel power connector.
The new PageOS 4 supports all the features found in the previous OS3 software, including custom LUT support and upload, image overlay with opacity and blink adjustments, histogram display, false color, dual zebra bars, peaking, adjustable aspect ratio, and anamorphic de-squeeze, but adds additional functions to make working with the monitor faster, easier, and more intuitive. The new software adds a settings dashboard, which provides easy access to commonly used functions. It also features preconfigured pages, though you can still build your own settings pages. Page tabs are a new feature, as well as the customizable false color overlays and the improved function buttons.
The improvements and enhancements that are packed into the SmallHD INDIE 7 monitor make it a flexible monitoring choice, suitable for indie and broadcast applications, and one well worth checking out.
