In this video, Rob Rives shows us a new six-track audio field recorder from Tascam, the DR-701D. An update to the DR-70D, the DR-701D now represents Tascam's flagship audio recorder for single-shooter video production. Designed specifically as an audio-recording solution for DSLR video applications, the DR-701D boasts dual built-in omnidirectional microphones and four XLR/TRS inputs with phantom power. In addition, the recorder features time code support, HDMI Start/Stop, improved audio quality, and the track count has been expanded from four to six so each XLR input can be recorded to an individual track and the stereo mix of those inputs can also be recorded to two tracks. In the following video, Rob Rives, from B&H, discusses the Zoom F8 Professional Multi-Track Field Recorder for Filmmaking and Sound Design.  Using both an Audio-Technica AT899 Condenser Lavalier Microphone, as well as a Schoeps CMC6 MK41 microphone mounted on an Auray Boompole with a Schoeps shockmount, Rives makes a direct comparison of sound quality at 24-bit/192 kHz resolution between the Zoom F8 Field Recorder and the more expensive Sound Devices 688 Professional Field Recorder.    The video explores the F8’s features including timecode support, three power options, dual SD card slots, redundant recording, its use as a multi-channel audio interface for Mac and PC, and compatibility with the company’s microphone capsules. In this video, Rob Rives shows us around the MOTU 828x, a professional digital audio interface that features a total of 28 inputs and 30 outputs. The unit, which is equipped with bothThunderbolt and USB connections, can be used with 32- or 64-bit Mac or PC systems. The interface is rackmountable and offers eight channels of 192kHz analog recording and playback, combined with 16 channels of ADAT optical digital I/O (8 channels at 96kHz), stereo S/PDIF, MIDI I/O, word clock, two headphone jacks, and stereo XLR main outs.
