3500STBII Multi-Function Digital Converter Box is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Are you feeling lucky? It works as a Digital Converter Box. All the other features appear to be just a 5th grade science project. The remote control barely works beyond 4 feet. Recording is consistently unreliable. Weekly scheduled programs are constantly dropped from the schedule. If trying to record two programs back to back, you are notified that there is a scheduling conflict. Have experienced many occasions where ALL recorded programs are erased from storage. Ninety day warrantee, as long as you do not feel a $20 return shipping is a bit outrageous. It was only $ with free shipping. You win some and you lose some! Are you feeling lucky?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VERY GOOD UNIT I purchased this unit to use with a vcr/dvd combo recorder which did not have a tuner. I use it with an antenna to receive over-the-air digital broadcasts (ATSC). This unit fills that need and works flawlessly. It was very easy to set up and use. I haven't used the QAM tuner feature because the local cable company has encripted their signal so we do not have open cable reception here. A bonus is that it has electronic program information available on the screen. Like that it has HDMI output as well as regular audio and video outputs as well as composite outputs. Overall a very good unit if you need a tuner.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Difficult to Operate, Cannot Manually Set Time This was purchased to record programming using a hard drive, but the interface and remote are both awkward to use. The front display is useless and appears to show some internal channel numbering system that is unrelated to anything else. I was willing to deal with its many quirks but incredibly there is no way to manually set the time on this unit and it thinks it is 2011. It is intended to get the time exclusively from the TV broadcast signal and if it's missing you're out of luck. The low price makes it not worthwhile to return it, but I wish I'd not wasted my money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from yes I would by this again, I wouldn't by it if I had Comcast Quick summery, Wow (AKA wide open west) allows users in Michigan to own their own boxes, this doesn't mean you get every station, but for a TV in a guest room that you don't want to rent a box for, this will get a lot of stations, I have a few rooms that I have my friends spend the night so that don't drink and drive and it tunes in around 80-100 stations. So my guests can get by for the night. Comcast moved all their stations out of a range of every tuner so NO Luck with COMCAST. But with WOW I have a projector that doesn't have a tuner, and a few older TV's that don't have a DTV tuner and this lets the TV work.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Digital Box It came up in HDTV (DTV , ATSC) mode; and, tried to auto-scan. But, I was looking for it to auto-find the unencrypted CableTV (QAM) channels...we're actually using it to receive channels on our building wide MATV coax network, that is generated by a ZeeVee TV Digital Cable Modulator, which only generates QAM TV Channels. It wouldn't find QAM until I manually stopped the boot-up auto-scan, found the menus, and changed the Antenna Type from Air to Cable. We're not using the DVR function; so, I can't speak at that. And, unfortunately it numbers the channels 2, 3, 4. Instead of 6.1, 3.1, etc. So Channel 1 is our 2.1. And, Channel 2 is our 3.1. Kind of confusing to untrained users. Once you choose a channel, it does display the proper x.x number in the top corner of the tv for a moment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great product if bugs get fixed. If they get the bugs out (hopefully with a firmware update) this could be a great product. Having a menu on broadcast TV in which you can schedule recording to a hard drive is nice. Some of the problems: Sometimes when the current and next program are list at the bottom of the screen the listing for the upcoming program is wrong. It actually shows a previous program. Sometimes when setting a program for recording or viewing it will tell you that it's already in progress. The the program I'm trying to set is several hours in the future. When this happens you need to turn the unit on and off. This corrects the problem. Also when I set channels to be deleted or skipped in the program listing it will indicate that it has saved the setting but when the unit is turned off and on it loses the setting and you have to reset the channels once more, which until you shut it off. The channel programs are listed as you go through the channels but this can take some time to load. This information is not saved so it has to be reloaded with every channel change. It would be nice if this was stored in the unit. The actual information about a program also takes some time to load. It would also be nice to be able to turn the need for a password off. The unit has a very narrow acceptance for the use of the remote. And sometimes the unit seems to be busy and does not respond to the remote. All be said I like the unit but can be improved. Hopefully there will be a firmware update soon.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wonderful Recorder We use this box to record television shows, we do not have cable/directv, so it is very difficult to find devices that work well for recording. The remote control is a great improvement over the previous model & is much easier to use. With an external hard drive, we can record all the shows we'd like & playback from the box or a laptop. It works great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised Reviews were generally correct. I had two digital converter boxed before this one, that didn't work as well and ended up burning out. Signal works well on this model
