Olympus 25mm f/1.8 overview

  • 1Description

Versatile yet simple, the silver M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 from Olympus is a 50mm equivalent prime for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. The normal field of view is complemented by a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture for controlling depth of field and producing selective focus effects, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions. Two aspherical elements are used in the optical design to help reduce spherical aberrations in order to achieve a high degree of sharpness, and these elements also help to reduce the overall size and weight of the lens. Additionally, a Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system is employed to deliver quick, quiet, and precise focusing performance to suit both video and photo applications.

Normal-length prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 50mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture helps to achieve shallow depth of field and selective focusing effects, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
Two aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortions in order to provide increased sharpness and more accurate rendering.
Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system benefits both photo and video applications due to its smooth, quiet, and fast performance.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Olympus 25mm f/1.8 reviews

M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens (Silver) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 122.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lens Even though I purchased the 12-40 2.8 Pro Lens I wanted a fixed 25mm (50mm equivalent) lens to provide for those times when you may want to photograph in very low light. This lens is comparable to the 75mm 1.8 lens in the skin tone area and the richness of the photograph. Olympus lenses are fantastic and this lens is no exception. It is light and will complement any Olympus body...EM10/EM1 or EM5 Mark II...if you are thinking about lenses for your 4/3 system and want to limit what you purchase consider the 25mm along with the 14-150mm...you have covered all situations and can use the 25 with a shallow depth of field to create amazing affects.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great lens, fast focus I use it with EM1 for indoor so far for a number of days. I use it to take baby photos and videos. The focus speed is very fast. My cousin brought a canon Eos-M to shoot photos, before he can focus on the subject, I already took 5 photos with sharp focus.... Large aperture, meaning less ISO needed whens shooting with low light conditions. That is great for u43, when higher ISO tends to smear the pixels. I wish that it is weather sealed to match the em1 body and it has metal finish and manual focus ring like the f2.8 pro 12-40mm. But I guess the price would increase significantly. Overall, no complaints on the optical quality and focusing speed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You could shave with this Puppy I have used Oly cameras and lenses for 30 years, and only recently, reluctantly, switched to digital. I have some of the really good 4/3 lenses that I used with adapters, but I wanted something small and light, but not toylike, for travel. I took a chance with this guy, and (sob) when I made 8 x 10 prints, using my OM-D EM-5 (stupid name; why isn't it the EM-1, and why did the EM-5 come before the EM-1?),the prints were as sharp as anything I made with Ektacolor and a Leica system. Dynamic range leaves something to be desired, but that's the sensor, not the lens. I've only taken a couple of hundred exposures with it, but so far I've been very pleased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A get out and take photos kind of lens Wanted a small, light, high quality lens with a normal field of view. Looked at the few that are available. The PL looked great but I did not want to spend the $$. On my Olympus em1 the M.Zuiko 25mm meets all of my requirements. Its small, light. On the em1 it almost disappears. It focuses fast in dim light. In near dark, not so much.It is sharp. No issue with sharpness, out of focus areas look smooth. Included lens hood works well, have to remove a useless trim ring on the lens, nothing to be concerned about but trim ring will, of course, disappear in time. (Don't know why Oly bothered with the trim ring).I really enjoy using this lens and its output is just as I expected.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A cornerstone lens. I use this universal prime lens for virtually any kind of work, thus universal. It really makes a good example of why Four Thirds added Micro to the name. I like small lenses that produce excellent image quality and this is one that works incredibly well adding the advantage of more exposure and detail across the entire image. It focuses fast and is so easy to put in my pocket should I be using another lens. I can get results from this as good as results on a lens that can be priced far higher. This lens is all about opportunity and reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Lens !! I have taken more than 9000 images already with this lens ! 7500 + of those are taken in Santorini where I could capture some incredible sunsets, portraits, etc. I just love the bokeh it produces. I attach a sample image where you can see the sharpness at a coffee glass and in the back 2 people.. I use it with my e-pl5. Mounting other lenses, comparing, things are day and night ! Also the price is not bad at all. Definitely keeping it as long as I am into mivro four thirds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Lens Acquired the E-M10 about a year ago for a two week trip to Europe because I did not want to take my Nikon system and was very happy with the 14-42mm kit lens. Just purchased this lens two weeks ago because I was shooting a lot of grandchildren school events and needed the extra speed. I have shot approximately 1,000 images with it and must say I am very impressed with the results! I have compared it to my Nikon D610 with the 50mm F1.8 and this combination actually produces better 8X10 prints. Light, fast focusing, and sharp wide open - great lens.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great glass! I wanted to add a prime lens to my E-M5 before going on vacation and this was the perfect thing. Shots are consistently excellent from many distances; up close it can produce some razor-sharp detail with nice bokeh, and from a distance it provides clear, even coverage.Whites are brilliant and colors translate as expected; I've had to do very little post-processing in Lightroom. The only downside is occassionally slow AF in low-light situations.Highly recommended!
