The URSA 4K v1 Digital Cinema Camera with PL Mount from Blackmagic Design features a form factor that is designed to make it flexible enough to use on productions of all sizes. From a single operator all the way up to a full camera crew. At the heart of the imaging system, URSA 4K features a 3840 x 2160p resolution, global shutter CMOS sensor with 12 stops of dynamic range. The camera records and outputs in the 2160p format, a 16:9 standard with precisely four times the resolution of 1080p, often referred to as UltraHD.

Internally, URSA can record in the two formats. The first is 12-bit CinemaDNG RAW, a losslessly compressed RAW codec designed to give you the greatest latitude for image manipulation in post production. The second is Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), a debayered codec for easier playback and editing in a wide range of video editing applications. Additionally, ProRes also requires less storage space for extended recording times. Video is recorded to CFast 2.0 memory cards, and the camera features two slots allowing you to hot swap media for continuous, uninterrupted recording.

URSA features a 10.1", 1080p resolution flip-out LCD screen so that you won't necessarily need an on-camera monitor. Additionally, there are two 5" capacitive touchscreens, one on either side of the body. These allow you to access the menu system and can display data such as timecode and audio waveforms.

So you can edit and color correct your footage, especially footage shot in the CinemaDNG RAW format, URSA includes DaVinci Resolve software dongle for OS X and Windows.

Supports Diverse User Groups
From solo camera operator up to full-scale productions. When used on jobs with a large crew, you can easily dress the camera with high quality cinema lenses, rods, follow focus, matte box, and more. If you're shooting solo, then the large fold out on-set monitor, built in scopes, and internal recorder means you don't need any extra on-set equipment because it's all built into the camera
Design By Department
Each area of the camera has been divided into separate camera operator, camera assistant, and audio engineer work stations. The camera operator station features a large 10" fold out on-set monitor and separate 5 inch screen for settings, camera status, and scopes. The camera assist station features a separate screen for camera settings, status, and scopes. Finally, the audio station features audio meters, controls, and audio connections
Professional Design and Aluminum Construction
URSA features an active cooling system with low noise fan that allows it to achieve higher frame rates for longer while keeping the chassis cool. The machined aluminum design is built to incredibly robust and has been engineered with the possibility it will be handled by lots of people in mind
Super 35-Sized Global Shutter CMOS Sensor
The 4K resolution sensor uses a global shutter so that it will be free from the motion artifacts and flash banding experienced with rolling shutter sensors. It features a wide, 12 stop dynamic range to help ensure detail is retained even in the shadow and highlight portions of the image and to provide more information to work with in color correction. The sensor size makes it possible to recreate the shallow depth of field look popularly associated with film. At this size it is slightly larger than the APS-C DSLR format and will accommodate most lenses that cover an APS-C image circle
Dual CFast 2.0 Card Slots
With two cards slots, it is possible to keep recording indefinitely. Simply switch over to a fresh card in the second slot and then remote the first to offload to a computer or storage device. By using CFast 2.0 media it is possible to record even at the high bitrates demanded by RAW capture without dropping frames
Built-In Scopes
URSA features scopes for exposure, focus, and audio levels. And there is a dedicated screen for camera assistants so they can check and update camera parameters independently of the camera operator
Field Upgradable Sensor
The URSA features a modular camera turret that can be removed by taking out four bolts. The camera turret includes the sensor, lens mount, and lens control connections and can be upgraded in the future when new types of sensors are developed
Broadcast Connections
Standard BNC connectors mean you don't need to worry about custom or proprietary cabling solutions. URSA features a 12G-SDI output that can be down converted to HD or used directly for full Ultra HD 4K quality. There's also a 12G-SDI input that can display return video on the 10" LCD when covering live events or working with external video sources. A separate SDI output that outputs 1080p only is available for attaching EVFs and monitors. For audio, there are two XLR inputs with +48 V phantom power. You also get timecode in and out to help synchronize with other cameras or separate audio recorders
LANC Port
A LANC is provided on a 2.5 mm sub mini connector. It allows you to control record START/STOP, iris, and focus
Supports Standard Battery Plates
Your choice of Gold Mount or V-Mount battery plates can be attached directly to the back of the camera. Alternatively, there is a 4-pin XLR input so you can use a power supply or other DC power source. The URSA also features a 4-pin XLR power output so you can power a camera mounted 12V accessory without needing an additional battery
Lots of Mounting Points
The top of the camera features a number of 3/8"-16 tapped holes so you can attach articulating arms and other mounting accessories. There are also 1/4"-20 holes along the top of the removable handle. In addition, there is a mount for 15mm LWS-spaced rods built-in to the bottom of the camera. By adding a pair of standard 15mm rods you can add accessories such as follow focus and matte box. A V-lock delta interface allows the camera to be attached to tripods using an ENG-style quick release system such as the VCT-14

URSA 4K v1 Digital Cinema Camera (PL Mount) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality and affordability! Love this hardware. The body design is hefty but necessary with all the amazing features utilized during production. Love that the camera sensor is upgradable so one can maximize longevity. Does great with information recovery in post (best with what is seemingly overexposed). Can struggle with underexposed information recovery, sometimes produces fixed patterned noise). Also the camera produces black hole sun. One must be strategic when filming outdoor wides. Love that this camera can compete with the Red and Arri at it's amazing price point. For competitive cinematic quality at a budget friendly price, the Ursa is the way to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best 4k for the Money! I have had this camera for two months now and I thoroughly enjoy it. It offers high quality 4k and HD recording at high frame-rates for a realistic price. I was unable to get in on the recent price reduction $but I won't complain too much. People complain about it's low light abilities and while low-light shots are not astounding they are more than suitable for high end work. You would have to look very closely to find serious noise issues. The weight does require substantial support and I wish it had an HDMI connection. Other than weight, limited ISO's, and no HDMI port, this camera gives stunning digital video that outperforms many high end cameras like the Canon C300 and the Sony FS700. Overall I would say buy it, but only if you want a high end cinema look and really have a need for it since the cost and file sizes are substantial.Remember a camera is only one tool in a filmmaker's arsenal and some accessories will be required to make the most out of this product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Much to like. Some issues to work out. I am writing this review after owning the camera for a few months now.The URSA is an intriguing camera. I bought the camera for many reasons and had hopes that since BlackMagic had released a few cameras at the point of announcing the URSA it would be a relatively safe purchase. Some of the feature that made me pull the trigger. 4K ProRes recording(Producers sometimes pass on using my RED because of the workflow), Global shutter, weight(I personally like operating heaver cameras), built in 10 monitor. My first impressions regarding the camera regarding the build and design. Both are extremely well done. Solid construction, fit and finish. After working with the camera on a handful of jobs. 10 monitor is extremely easy to use for both tripod and dolly work. I was surprised how easy it was to adjust to operating with it compared with a viewfinder.he 10 is very sharp and you can easily judge focus. Color and contrast are decent enough. Although I would say that whites bloom a bit even when there is more detail in the recording. I have not outfitted the camera with an EVF yet. Another surprise is the ease and quickness of playback. Reviewing the last take is extremely quick with just two button presses. No loading time is non existent. Checking takes is quick and easy. Some issues. CFAST 2.0 cards compatibility even when you select the high speed Sandisk cards(550) is a major problem. File corruption, dropped frames and camera functions locking up are the downside of working with this camera and its choose flash cards. I am glad that checking takes is easy because it is a very important to do so. Currently I am only using the camera for shots/productions that can accommodate being done over if their is a problem with a take. Fix patterned noise is a serious problem with the camera only being acceptable for shooting at 200 and 400 speeds. 8At 800 the noise becomes very apparent and unacceptable. I am hopeful that firmware will address the CFAST issues and maybe even the noise issue. Certainly the card issue needs to be rectified. After spending 2K on cards its unacceptable to hear that they are no longer Blackmagic approved. The noise issues might not be something that firmware can fully address, but considering that the sensor could be swapped out for a future lower noise sensor that might be an acceptable fix. More to come as I work with the camera and find things worthy of sharing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beast = Great ProRes 444 Footage With the URSA I nearly only shoot ProRes 4444 in either 1080 or 4K. I also have the EVF which is a much have for this camera. To me, this is a production camera and that's where the 10 screen really helps. What I'm not a huge fan of is the weight and the bulk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What is Apple for IT, URSA will be for a film Fantastic camera! I used many professional cameras in my work but this one is Porshe. If you know what you doing, this equipment is excellent tool for production. It's a smart build, simple and have all what one professional worker need. Of course, this is not for 1/2 pro people who are in wedding business. With it, you can do your job. Excellent product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Box damaged and looked like it was opened and resealed I just received the camera today but I noticed that the box had a big hole on one side.I called the b&h customer service but they responded very casually like it happens all the time and asked me to take pictures just in case. After that I opened the box to see the camera and there were pen markings on it like it was refurbished or something. I thought I was purchasing a new camera, anyways I have not operated the camera yet as I have to order other accessories. The box seemed like it was opened before :( and it should have been mentioned as refurbished.
