Celestron NexStar Evolution overview

  • 1Description

Representing the largest aperture in the series, the NexStar Evolution 9.25 235mm Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope from Celestron is a powerful yet portable user-friendly scope that can be used for observing everything from the Moon and planets to deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae. Using Celestron's proprietary StarBright XLT multi-coating system, light transmission is increased throughout the entire optical path with anti-reflection multi-coated lenses, highly reflective multi-coated mirrors, and four-element rare-earth glass. While the focal ratio is a slow f/10, the scope's precision tracking system allows it to be a competent astrophotography/astroimaging platform.

The Evolution comes with two ways to control it. The first is to simply download Celestron's free Navigator app for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. The scope's onboard WiFi provides the connection to the app and expands the capabilities and functionality, including a database of over 120,000 objects with detailed information on more than 200 of those objects. Second is the iconic 2-line 16-character NexStar hand controller. This is a wired piece of hardware with a database of over 40,000 celestial objects plus several astronomical catalogs including the Messier and Caldwell. Whether using the controller or mobile device, the system can assist in properly aligning the scope, provide tours of the objects and events visible whenever and wherever you're viewing, and allow for manual direction and slew control.

Designed for portability, the Evolution features a long life lithium-iron phosphate battery providing up to 10 hours of continual use on a single charge. The scope comes with an AC power supply with plugs for the US, EU, UK, and AU outlets. The battery powers the servo motors, auxiliary accessory ports, a USB charging port, and the built-in WiFi. Manual clutches in both altitude and azimuth enable you to manually move and point the telescope when it's powered off.

    Celestron NexStar Evolution reviews

    NexStar Evolution 9.25 235mm f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain GoTo Telescope is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it! I received my Celestron Evolution 9.25 SCT on time. Customer service guys are awesome..very helpful. I found few problems with my telescope and I already addressed them to Celestron company. The red dot finder and dovetail kept on falling off , I had to glue them back together. The cover for the power input port doesn't seem to fit. Otherwise I'm extremely happy my telescope

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It seems well built. The unit seems well conceived and well built, but did come with the paint scraped off most of one edge. I don't know how it could have gotten out of the factory that way. It seems like the damage was most likely done before assembly. I haven't had clear skies to try it out in since I got it, amazingly, but assuming that nothing not otherwise obvious proves to have been damaged, I won't go through the hassle of looking to exchange it, as I will certainly put my own marks on it soon enough. Because it is untried and the site forces me to rate it, please consider my rating as tentative only. So far, the tripod certainly exceeds my expectations. It is a very solid piece of gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome telescope! Arrived here 5 days from purchase which is amazing in itself, packed nicely and very easy to put together. Not as heavy as I expected and pretty easy to move around once assembled. Cannot wait to use it properly as weather is poor here at the moment but so far I'm very impressed and amazed in the detail difference from the 5SE (which I loved). Noticed the last review said that the cover over the power switch doesn't fit? That's only there for protection so it doesn't accidentally get switched from 'off' to 'on' when packaged. Once unpacked you remove the tape strip that helps it the cover cover the switch then dispose of it as it's no longer needed. As for all the other issues had in the last review, I personally think it wasn't assembled correctly i.e. the finder scope needs to be loosened a bit so it can slide right in then tightened into position. 5 star for product and service. Very happy in all!
