Benro A48FDS4 overview

  • 1Description

This Benro A48FDS4 Series 4 Aluminum Monopod includes the 3-Leg Locking Base and S4 Video Head to give you a versatile still or video camera support system. Able to hold up to 8.8 lb and extend to 68.5", the removable base provides three solid points of contact with the ground, and acts like a mini tripod. A ball joint on the base allows you to smoothly pan and tilt your camera, and it can be locked so that you can pan with the head independently.

The base can be replaced with the included rubber foot for standard monopod use. The four leg sections are secured by flip locks, and it folds down to 26" for transport in the included carrying case. The S4 is a compact video head with 360° rotation, fluid drag, and spring balance. There are separate pan and tilt lock levers, and a sliding quick release plate helps to balance the camera.

  • S4 Video Head

The compact Benro S4 Video Head weighs only 1.5 pounds and can support cameras weighing up to 8.8 pounds. The head has a fluid drag system and spring balance, with 360° panning rotation for smooth camera moves. There are separate pan and tilt lock levers for locked-off shots. The sliding quick release (QR) plate helps balance the camera, and the head comes with a safety lock for the QR Plate. The S4 Video Head accepts 501PL compatible quick release plates, making it easy to find spares or replacements.

The integrated bubble level aids in setting up level horizons. The adjustable pan bar can be mounted onto either side of the S4 video head using the built-in rosettes. The S4 head can be mounted on ball adapters, tripods, and other camera supports via the 3/8"-16 threaded female receiver on the magnesium alloy flat base.

  • A48FD Series 4 Aluminum Monopod with 3-Leg Locking Base

Able to hold up to 44.1 lb and extend to 64.6", the A48FD Series 4 is a versatile camera support thanks to its base which provides three solid points of contact with the ground. The base acts like a mini tripod, and its ball joint allows you to smoothly pan and tilt your camera. If using a pan head on the monopod, the base's ball joint can be locked so that you can pan with the head independently, or you can replace the base with the included rubber foot. The four leg sections are secured by flip locks, and it folds down to 22" for transport.

Benro A48FDS4 reviews

A48FDS4 Series 4 Aluminum Monopod with 3-Leg Locking Base and S4 Video Head is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fit my needs perfectly I've only used the Benro a couple times so far, but for the times when I need a lighter, agile shoot&run tripod for 5lb video camera instead of heavy interview tripod, this monopod offers the flexibility and weight required to get into tight places and stabilize camera for quality footage. The monopod head's quality and flexibility exceeded expectations considering the price and size and I'm used to working with wonderful sachtler fluid head on my big tripod, so I kinda feel like i know quality. The test will be how long will all the joints and connections stay tight and move with precision. I spent 3 weeks researching monopods and finally decided on this one 'cause of the reviews and the price point and I think the Benro does offer good value for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent alternative to Manfrotto but inferior build quality I bought this as a back-up for my Manfrotto monopod and as something a second shooter could use at events with me. Solid product except that within about 3-4 months of using it, it constantly needs to be tightened and the nuts are not the most accessible without destroying the finish of the leg. PROS: - very functional - good fluid head - actually compatible with Manfrotto - easy locking on the base ball point (at least for the first several months) - no tools required - comes with a sweet case and the case has a pocket (where I keep my tool to tighten it with) CONS - now needs to be tightened all the time (much shorter time that Manfrotto equivalent)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not long lasting... I'm a wedding videographer so I constantly need to use a monopod to grab quick shots. I was initially impressed with the head of this monopod-- the pan and tilt functions work nicely. Also, its long base legs give it nice stability. But I can only give it 3 stars because after just 6 months of use, the second lock on the leg is officially no good; it constantly sinks unless being held very, very carefully in a static position. The first lock does the same, but it has a rubber band around the section that came with it that works shockingly well to keep the section from sinking. I registered with Benro and am hoping to return for repairs in January when I don't have shoots anymore. Not a bad monopod, but not sure of its durability given the problems I've encountered.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sweet! Nice flow of movement in the head with pan/tilt actions. The Manfrotto is overpriced. This is a better option. Light-weight, easy to extend the length with flip-tab lock extenders, and will accept a Manfrotto 577 Quick Adapter plate for fast swap-out to another system (like a GlideCam etc.). The cheaper version of this does not accept the 577 plate ...I originally bought that, then exchanged for this S4 model for that reason ...quick Manfrotto 577 plate adapter compatibility. Awesome product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my wedding video business Tried several monopods for my wedding business and I like this one better than the manfrotto for a couple reasons. First, you can lock the feet, making the one leg unable to lean. I've left my Canon C100 on this monopod unattended on a few occasions, though I don't recommend it with a camera that heavy, it can be done. Secondly it is cheaper for the same build quality. The leg portion is just as stable as the manfrotto and the head is just as smooth. No reason to waste extra cash on a more expensive monopod that does the same thing. Also, if anyone tells you that any monopod with feet will be smooth to pan without any alterations, they're lying. If it starts to stick on pans, just spray some WD-40 on the bottom ball and it's back to normal. It will happen. I had it happen at a wedding one time with the manfrotto, just went to the kitchen and put a dab of olive oil on it, no problems after that. Bottom line, I love this monopod. It's a great price for a great product. I'm sure I'll be buying another one some time soon (for my second shooter). It's essential.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome video monopod This is a great monopod for video! The flip lock leg sections are quick to open and set securely, the included S4 fluid video head is smooth and secure and the fold-out feet add stability that lets this monopod work very well for video. I wouldn't advise buying this monopod primarily for still photos because the big fluid head and feet are overkill for stills and make it heavier than I'd like for still work. I use a Canon 6D and 60D on this monopod with lenses from 14mm to 420mm equivalent and get good video with little or no unwanted camera motion. An adjustment on the foot either keeps the monopod firmly vertical or allows some tilt and sway useful for adding camera motion to your shot. Panning shots are easily done either with the monopod pivoting on the foot mount or more controlled by setting the drag on the head. The S4 head is removable and can be used on a tripod, slider, crane or whatever. The quick release camera plate is easy to operate, locks down tight with an adjustable friction lock and won't accidentally fall off because of a safety catch that only releases when you push a button. I've shot a lot of event video with rigs or tripods but will be using this monopod for most of that in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value Great little set up for run and gun with light rigs. This is much better than Manfrotto, and I think it lies more in the level of Sachtler. Very nice bag included with tools too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Benro A48FDS4 Series 4 Aluminum Monopod with 3-Leg Locking B Very nice monopod. It is pretty big though, if you want a small monopod to carry around this is not the one for you. The head is smooth, and the locks on the leg work good. I like the foot although you need to make sure it is locked if you want to be straight up and down, also make sure that it is tightened up well if you shoot using the monopod as a boom or it will cause vibrations. Getting great jib like shots using this with the Crane 2 gimbal.
