Nikon's black 8x30 ProStaff 7S Binoculars combine optical performance with lightweight rugged construction details to create a versatile optic that can be used at the stadium, in the woods, or on the boat.

The ProStaff's 8x power helps to produce a spacious field of view and a larger exit pupil versus a higher-power model to make them more comfortable to use in low light or on a boat in rough or rolling seas. Their moderate-size objective lenses place them just above a compact model, offering the performance of a full-sized optic without excessive weight or bulk—making it convenient to pack and carry. Their environmentally friendly lead- and arsenic-free Eco-glass is fully multi-coated to maximize light transmission and improve contrast, clarity, and color fidelity. Complementing the lenses are phase-corrected roof prisms that have been further treated with highly reflective mirror coatings to eliminate internal interference and minimize light loss. The combination of glass and optical coatings produces high-contrast views that are bright and clear, with accurate colors across the entire field of view.

This ProStaff features a strong and lightweight fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate resin body, which further makes them easy to pack and carry, and weighing in at less than 15 ounces, you will experience less fatigue while holding them up to your eyes compared with larger models made with a metal chassis. To withstand the elements wherever you use them, the housing is O-ring sealed, allowing the binoculars to be submersed to 3.3' for up to 10 minutes, and is nitrogen filled for fogproof performance. Black rubber armoring provides protection from drops and impacts, as well as a sure non-slip grip.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 8x power magnifies objects while yielding a larger exit pupil and wider field of view compared with higher-power optics for a more comfortable viewing experience
  • 30mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability compared with smaller-objective models without adding excessive bulk or weight
  • Compact roof prism design ensures slim optical tubes to help maintain a slim form factor
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission to produce bright and clear high-contrast images
  • Phase-corrected prisms eliminate internal interference in the light path to improve contrast and resolution
  • Highly reflective mirror prism coatings limit light loss to keep images bright and sharp
  • Generous 341' field of view at 1000 yards helps to minimize the appearance of visible hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge configuration provides a solid and stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large slip center focus wheel allows for precise focus control, even while wearing gloves
  • Right eye dioptric adjustment collar helps to compensate for individual eye prescription
  • 56-72mm interpupillary adjustment range
  • Twist-up/click-stop rubber eyecups for use with or without eyewear
  • 15.4mm eye relief helps to reduce eyestrain and improves viewing comfort
  • 3.8mm exit pupil
Construction Details
  • Environmentally friendly Eco-Glass is made without lead or arsenic
  • Lightweight and durable fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate chassis
  • Chassis material is temperature resistant, preventing the expansion and contraction that is common with metal, which can cause the optical components to move out of alignment over time and prevent sharp focus
  • Textured black rubber armoring protects against bumps and impacts while providing a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold and wet weather
  • Textured, ergonomically placed palm pads improve grip stability and comfort
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and submersible to 3.3' (1m) for up to 10 minutes and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions
  • One-piece tethered ocular rainguard protects eyecups from water pooling in them from rain or spraying water when binocular is hanging from the neck
  • Objective lens caps can be clipped to neck strap to avoid losing them during observation sessions
  • Light 14.5-ounce weight

Bought these for a Rhine River cruise and they performed as expected. I was very happy using them each time they came up to my eyes. I recommend!

Great Beginner Binoculars

The Nikon Prostaff 7s 8x30 Binoculars offer a great user-friendly experience that everyone can enjoy. Usually 8x30s/8x32s suffer from some sort of blackouts that the user has to compensate for - but not with these! Anybody can put it to their eyes and share the same experience with no issues. This is easily the number one feature in these smaller sized binoculars and is why they make a great option for beginners. (Note: I don't wear glasses, so I can't speak to how these would handle with those who do wear them). The other positive I noticed while using the Prostaff was the brightness. While the colors seemed fine, the brightness popped out to me when compared to my less expensive pair. The small size and weight are a plus when it comes to portability. It weighs less than a pound and is easy to carry on a hike. Another great feature is the close focus. While listed as 8.2ft, I was able to focus on objects just under 6ft. (~5.9ft in my use). A lot of fun for getting up close to bugs or nature. The big negative here is the sharpness. While it's not bad, It's not great either. It gets the job done but leaves room to be desired. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend them for serious birders or nature watchers. But if you're ok with decent sharpness, you'll be glad to know that the sharpness across the field of view is excellent. Although the Field of View is a bit narrow. The best way to describe it is like looking through a tube. It was noticeable to me while viewing, but my wife didn't seem to mind when she used it. The other negative is the quality of the exterior armor. While it is comfortable and seems like it could take a bump or two, you can tell in the hand the armor probably wouldn't last a long time. (Maybe a couple years with normal wear and tear) Overall, the Nikon Prostaff 7s 8x30 is a great option for beginners and kids for the great user-friendly experience. But if you're looking for that extra detail in the image - I would look elsewhere.

Amazing for a good price.

I love this ones, but never cross my mind that x10 would be more suitable for my area as the birds are far in the lakes and the bay.

Sharp and bright. They are actually brighter than my Kahle 8x42. For a compact and super lightweight binocular I'm impressed.

I am a new bird watcher and want to be able to see details of birds.. I borrowed the Nikon prostaff 7s 8x42 and could see well, but a bit heavy.. How do you compare this to that one in terms of detail/closeup? Thank you

I have a pair of Nikon monarch 5 10x42 and the Nikon 8x30 prostaff. Detail is amazing on the prostaffs and they are smaller and lighter than the 10x42. Simply amazing binoculars that I cant say enough to good things about. The feel is very similar to the monarchs in texture and handling. Love them!

Any suggestion between these and the Carson VP-832?
Asked by: Michael
It is a matter of opinion but I prefer the Nikon 8x30 ProStaff 7S Binocular over the Carson VP-832. I feel the Nikon has better optical quality.
