Access your data quickly and efficiently with the 500GB 850 Evo 2.5" SATA III SSD from Samsung. This 500GB solid state drive features sequential read speeds of up to 540 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 520 MB/s allowing for the rapid transfer of large files. The integrated SATA 6 Gb/s interface makes installation quick and easy while remaining backwards compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s and SATA 1.5 Gb/s interfaces. This Samsung SSD even comes with 512MB of low power DDR3 SDRAM used as cache memory to enhance processing speeds.
With a 2.5" form factor, this solid state drive is designed to be used in a variety of notebook and desktop computers. The reduced size is achieved through the use of Samsung's 3D V-NAND flash memory as each of the 32 cell layers are stacked vertically rather than horizontally. Samsung also implements their own TurboWrite technology to deliver enhanced sequential read and write speeds while Rapid Mode software utilizes the integrated cache (DRAM) memory to improve processing speeds. Insert this solid state drive into nearly any notebook computer and you benefit from improved battery life with the enhanced SSD controller allowing the drive to sleep at an efficient 2 mW.

- Samsung's 3D V-NAND flash memory helps to overcome the limitations of conventional planar NAND architecture. It stacks 32 cell layers vertically over one another rather than trying to fit itself onto a fixed horizontal space, in order to provide high density and performance with a small footprint.

Best upgrade
Used on a dual core laptop with Windows 10. OEM drive made the computer run very slow. Watching videos was choppy and accessing data and internet was disappointing. Cloning the PC drive to the Samsung SSD was extremely easy and fast. Instead of wanting to buy a new Laptop, the price of the SSD compared to a new computer with a faster CPU is no longer a consideration. I have upgraded all of my desktops to Samsung SSD. Even the fastest Corei7 gets dramatic performance improvement. Creating DVDs in half the time, editing video quicker. Now when GIGABIT internet speed becomes available, I wont need the expensive "cable TV".

Flawless
Before I installed two of these in my Mac Mini server, I would turn on the computer and go get a fresh drink, and when I returned, it would not yet be finished booting up. Now, the disk portion of startup takes about 15 seconds. FCPX now loads in 12 seconds, rather than 70. The Mac immediately recognized the drives. After restoring via Time Machine, the mini booted up the first time, and all Mac applications worked. I did have to create a new Windows virtual machine running on VMWare. The old one would not start. The primary drive in the mini is easy to replace. Not so for the second drive. If you have no experience with computer hardware, have a professional do it.

Samsung SSD 850 EVO
I did a lot of research before purchasing this drive. Industry leading 5 year warranty and 150TB Write were just 2 of the many pluses that I used for my purchase decision. You may wish to read the Tech Report: The SSD Endurance Experiment: They're all dead. Using the data cloning software that came with the drive was easy. After cloning the drive it booted without any issues. Using Samsung Magician is easy as well. I did have to turn on over provisioning but that was just a couple of clicks. I like the fact that I am able to boot and use windows in approximately 40 seconds vs the 3.5 to 4 minutes it was taking on my 7200RPM drive.

Huge performance improvement. HUGE.
I waited MUCH too long to purchase this. I installed this Samsung 850 Evo SSD into a SLOW AF 13 Macbook Pro from 2011... NIGHT AND DAY. My computer went from 2 minute startups and 30 second app loads to 17 second startups and instant app loads. And that's a hard drive CLONE, not even a fresh install. I'd wager that my MBP is even faster than the day I bought it. I couldn't be happier with this purchase. You need this. You've NEEDED this. Buy it.

Phenomenal and Fast
1. Experience - WOW!!!!! The boot time with all my startup software runs about five times faster with this SSD compared to my old HDD, and that means I don't have to wait as long to start using my PC.
2. Experience - Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! My antivirus scan used to take 90 minutes with my old HDD. It now completes in just 12 minutes with this SSD.
3. Advice - Use the Samsung Data Migration software to clone your HDD over to this SSD. It works great and you don't need anything else.
4. Advice - Tweak this SSD using the Samsung Magician software for better performance based on the way you want to use the drive in the future.

Upgraded 2012 Sager laptop ssd intel 180gb to ,Evo 500GBssd
Not automatically seen in bios, and drive did not come with sata-usb dongle shown in install paperwork ! I had an usb -sata adapter by luck from previous computer work! Once os recognized dongle! I was able to initialize Drive , then I cloned it externally, installed in laptop , and it worked Great ! Any one using dongles, careful, make sure os installs dongle, it should appear as install like sticking in a new thumb drive! small popup showing install ! If not ,when you look for drive , os will not see it, (device manager or magic clone software that comes with drive! If sata-usb adapter came with drive, I would have given it 5 stars ! Alot of people will not have this adapter, and could have a major impact on install!

Great Drive, Junk Software
Installed Samsung 500GB 850 EVO SSD in a Windows 7 Toshiba Portege R835-P50x. Completely changed the nature of the machine - a major improvement. Laptop now starts up within 30 seconds and is ready to go, shuts down with 15 seconds, and is way faster during any disk access. This already very light laptop is now lighter and indifferent to shock - it handles more like a tablet, but with the responsiveness of a PC. Only downside is that I had to buy 3rd party software (Paragon OS to SSD - worked like a charm, not very expensive) because the included Samsung disk migration software consistently failed to do the job.

Great upgrade for Alienware 15 R3 Gaming Laptop
I purchased this SSD to upgrade the mechanical 7200 RPM hard drive that came with my laptop and I couldn't be happier. I have a NVMe 512GB PCIe SSD (Boot) and 2TB EVO 850 SSD (Storage). As soon as I installed the EVO 850 2TB SSD my laptop had more than enough space to install all the game and software that I have. With no hassles cloning the original drive. Now I have more options when it comes to installing new games and software.
