Peak Design CP-2 overview

  • 1Description

The CapturePRO Camera Clip with PROplate from Peak Design is a camera holstering system that securely holds your camera without the traditional camera strap. The system is made up of a clip and a PROplate quick release plate, which together can support up to 200 lb. The quick release plate is compatible with all Arca-type clamps. Adapters for Manfrotto RC2 heads are included. With the adapters attached, the PROplate is compatible with Manfrotto RC2 heads that attach to a compatible plate at two points, along the head's locking cam lever and directly across from the lever. These include RC2 heads designed by Manfrotto for still photography. RC2 heads that attach to a plate at three points, along the head's locking cam lever and at two corners opposite the lever are typically incompatible with the PROplate with RC2 adapters. Such heads with a three-point connection frequently appear in Manfrotto RC2 video heads. The clip can attach to any backpack strap, bag, or belt less than 3" wide. It is ideal for photographers who need their hands free and also need instant access to their camera.

To use the system, attach the quick release plate to your camera, clamp the clip around a strap or belt and secure in place by tightening the two hand-tightened bolts. Your camera slides into the clip, locks in place, and will not detach until you push the quick release button to release it from the clip.

The CapturePRO Camera Clip can also be mounted directly to a tripod or monopod and be used as a quick release clamp. It features a 3/8"-16 thread and a 3/8"-16 to 1/4"-20 reducer bushing is included.

The CapturePRO Camera Clip with PROplate also comes with a 4mm hex wrench for securely installing your plate on the camera, four attachment screws for the RC2 adapters, and a microfiber pouch for storing your clip when it is not in use.

A safety lock can be activated by turning the release button, preventing accidental release and theft.
4 corner-mounted Anchor connection points for Peak Design camera straps.
Injection-molded rubber pads on the quick release plates mold to the bottom of your camera and prevent your camera from twisting during use.
A plate locking-knob tightens down onto the plate for extra rigidity and for point-of-view video.
Your camera can lock into the CapturePRO in multiple directions allowing you to easily change lenses.
All parts are made of corrosion resistant and weatherproof materials.

CapturePRO Camera Clip with PROplate is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 97.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Precision engineering: It shows Sometimes you get things that feel flimsy and imprecisely made. This isn't one of those devices. The last thing you want when carrying your camera on a clip like this is worrying that it'll fail or release by accident. With the CapturePRO, I know I won't have to stress about that. The machining is precise when the plate clicks into the base, it feels like it's there for good (or at least until I press the release button). Bought it for a long distance backpacking trip. Took a similar trip last year and just used my neck strap. Was fine for the first 10 days, but eventually my neck became fatigued and a bit raw. This clip will take care of that problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this thing! The CapturePRO is perfect for what I need for. I can clip it on my back pack, my messenger bag, etc. It's nice that it has a 1/4-20 tripod mount as well since I have a heavy duty telescope mount that I use for astrophotography that only has a tripod screw. I also bought the lens kit which is nice for carrying an extra lens and is much easier swapping lenses. I subtracted 1 star because the Pro Plate that comes with it has moved the anchor loops from the actual plate top to the bottom which makes getting it into the Capture more difficult if you have an anchor on it. I ended up buying the older Arca plate to resolve this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product, but could be better. The main reason for this purchase is to attach my camera (6D) to my backpack shoulder strap for use while hiking, etc. It looked to be the perfect option. I have used it a few times now and have some concerns. The included screws should be longer or they should include the longer screws (a separate $10 purchase) because it is more difficult than it should be to attach to a padded shoulder strap. The longer screws are the ones shown in pretty much every image/video when using the shoulder strap as a mounting location. I have feared stripping the threads pretty much every time I attach this to my bag. I am not sure how it will hold up long term. The screws should have a hex socket to tighten them. I have had to use rubber gloves to attain the necessary grip and torque to tighten the thumb screws adequately. Using the same or a smaller hex socket screw as the PROplate would have made it much easier to ensure a secure a secure connection. They have another $10 option that acts like a wrench to tighten the thumb screws, but this is obscene to spend $20 on 2 screws and a wrench on items that should have already been included in the pro version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Useful little gadget I find this system pretty effective. I use it on the MOLLE loop system on the waist belt of my large pack, so the plate lies flat and snug against a firm belt that is snug against my waist, so I don't experience the sagging other people have mentioned. I'm also not particularly tall, so I haven't used it with a longer telephoto lens (or any lens more than about four inches tall) because it simply wouldn't work for me. It keeps my camera handy but out of the way of my trekking poles, so I can hoof it up a trail but be pretty close to ready to shoot when I run into something I want to capture.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be cautious I really wanted to like this product and it is sort of OK. I had it on my belt with the Propad, but had not had the camera attached while photographing indoors. I heard a thump as if something had fallen on the floor and then someone handed me the plate that holds the camera which had fallen off the Propad along with a thumbscrew. This was quite alarming to me and I have not used the clip since because I cannot trust it. It could have easily been my camera that had fallen on the ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Considering buying a second one. Great product. Build quality is excellent and it does exactly what it's supposed to. I use mine. with a nikon D7000, usually with a sigma 1.4 24mm lens. I've used it on a backpack strap, my belt, and across my chest on the strap of a sling pack. I use my with the pro pad when I'm using it on a belt, which is useful, as the camera body tends to bang against your leg, particularly with a lens that is heavy relative to the body. If you use a lens hood, that also reduces the discomfort having a lens swinging around. Props to peak design for making a great product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be better After reading through a few reviews I decided to give this thing a shot. When paired with the pro pad (I highly recommend if wearing on belt) it offers a very secure means to hang my camera. The one biggest complaint I have is the mechanism that secures the camera to the clip. It seems as if it is purely plastic and I found that it tends to stick with use and doesn't lock the camera in securely. With a little work it seems to work a little more freely however is still an issue.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Design! Very neat design and pretty easy to use. Especially if you are moving about a good bit, it stays firm and secure. My only wishes were a clip that would work on a horizontal waist belt that would allow entry from the top. Using it with a waist belt requires you to make a side entry instead of from the top - design really seems to work better when placed on a vertical harness strap. And if you are using a Manfrotto type of tripod, be prepared to install very small screws and adapters. These 2 small items are the only things preventing me giving it a 5 star.
