ASUS RT-AC3200 reviews

RT-AC3200 Tri-Band Wireless-AC3200 Gigabit Router is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the price, if you will use its advanced features This unit replaced an older dual band wireless router and, as expected, it made a big difference. I'm now getting the bandwidth that I'm paying my cable provider for throughout the entire house. The default 'plug-n-play' settings are adequate for most casual users. However, if you want to justify this router's price, you will need to customize some of this router's advanced features, but beware, some of those settings assume that you know what you're doing and more importantly, why. The bottom line is, if you're not willing to customize this router's advanced settings, then there's no need for you to spend the extra money on this router . Rather, it would make more sense for you to purchase a basic, no frills router.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good router still rough around the edges I bought this router for use in a 3500 square feet Ranch house with an additional 1600 square foot basement. 5 people live in the house ages 9 to 46. We have 20 plus internet devices with an average of 15 being connected at any given time. They consist of Windows 7/8 Desktops and laptops, Android Phones and tablets, Windows Phones and Xbox 360 and One Consoles. The appearance of the router out of the box is nice out of the box. It is large but all routers in the AC3200 class are. Using it flat on a shelf makes above eye level makes it very difficult to read the lights - a raised panel for the lights would have been better. The USB 3.0 port on the front is covered by a plastic piece that cannot be fully removed. This detracts from the nice appearance of the router if you use a USB stick (I do). The setup of the router is straight forward. I had it up and working in a few minutes - anyone who is familiar with the older Asus firmware will be at home. I am coming from an Asus RT-N56u router. The main reason I bought this router was for range, speed and ease client access. It does not disappoint on the range and speed. I got 5 bars throughout my house on the 2.4 ghz band on multiple devices. on 5Ghz AC I got 3 bars in the worst place in my house - 35 feet from the router through 4 thick walls. The ease of client access is a mixed bag. This Asus router uses Smart Connect Technology that is supposed to use one SSID and automatically connect your wireless device on the best frequency at the best speed. The router does use one ssid making client setup and access easy. It does not automatically connect the clients on the best possible frequency or using the best speed. Example I would have a dual band 2.4/5 ghz Android phone next to the router - sometimes I would get a 433 meg connection and others a 20 meg connection. This behavior happened with multiple clients. I am seeing an improvement in connection rates as the firmware is updated (on my second update). This router allows you to connect USB memory devices - I have not tried those features yet. One additional benefit of buying an Asus router is that they constantly update there firmware - I have owned other brands that would not update after the first year of release. My RT-N56U router firmware is still being update 3 years later ... I experience no drop of wireless clients. I can recommend this router - it is not perfect but it is close .....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RT-AC3200 delivering upload speed faster than wired Ethernet Asus RT-AC3200 performing spectacularly well. A small movie studio, we subscribed to Time-Warner Cable's speedy 200Mbps Internet service here in Midtown Manhattan and as you will see below, this router enables us to get the full value of that service via WiFi. Baseline: Connecting ethernet by wire directly from the cable modem into an SSD-based Macbook Pro today, we indeed are getting 213.60Mbps down / 20.55Mbps up according to speediest.net (Ookla). Ethernet cable connected via the RT-AC3200: Same result as connecting the wire directly to the TimeWarner-supplied cable modem. Wi-Fi nearby: RT-AC3200 positioned 10-feet up the wall, out of sight: It's 30-feet from the MacBook Pro to the router, with some wooden stairs, a sheetrock wall, and the floor of a sleeping loft between the router and the computer: Result via WiFi (we unplugged the Ethernet cable to be certain this is correct): 210.37Mbps download, 21.75Mbps upload. RT-AC3200 router's WiFi actually exceeded wired ethernet performance on the upload. The PING was also faster (21ms) via WiFi than via wired Ethernet. This test was conducted just seconds after the 'Ethernet-via-router' test cited above. Wi-Fi to the next apartment: Took the same MacBook Pro into the office/apartment next door and all the way to the farthest corner a full 70-feet away from the router. The RT-AC3200 delivered 178.62Mbps download, 17.83Mbps upload, through a loft floor, interior sheetrock walls plus also through two fire-insulated apartment-separating sheetrock walls.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More expensive than some, but definitely worth the cost This was purchased for a home network. It was easy to setup and the user interface is self explanatory. I have yet to use all the features such as the storage, but it has a great range and high quality connection.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DOA Well if you saw my last review you know that I upgraded from the Asus AC2400 model because the firmware was corrupted per Asus Tech support. The new Router Asus AC3200 was dead on arrival The router was confirmed dead by Asus Tech support. What can I say? ....I shipped this router back the same day..I am really disappointed because I really wanted the features that this router offered maybe Asus or someone will have mercy on me and send me a product that really works.
