My mom uses computer speakers connected to the headphone jack on her Mac Mini. The jack failed (evidently this isn't uncommon). As an inexpensive workaround, I picked up this USB audio adapter, and it worked like a charm. Even plugged into a USB hub, it stays recognized and selected in the Sound System Preferences pane even after rebooting and waking from sleep.

Sabrent AU-MMSA USB Stereo 3D Sound Adapter (Black) adapter works with Rode Smart Lav+?
I would think so; it's basically just a sound-card, it shouldn't make a difference what type of mic.
(Note that the computer must generally be online when installing these external sound-cards, so that it can get the drivers for it.)
