Garmin 010-12242-10 overview

  • 1Description

The BC 30 Wireless Backup Camera from Garmin can be used with compatible GPS units to add another layer of safety while driving. Using a 1/3" color CMOS image sensor to capture 640x480 video, the camera is connected to a wireless transmitter mounted inside the vehicle and has a range of up to 45 feet. The camera can be attached to your license plate, bumper, or anyplace on the rear of your vehicle and through the transmitter's connection will display the imaging on the connected receiver GPS Unit. When the camera is wired to your reverse lights for power, you can set the navigation unit to automatically display the camera view every time the vehicle shifts into reverse, and toggle back to navigation when taken out of reverse. For constant connection, the GPS receiver unit must be powered by the included car adapter receiver cable for communicating with the camera. IPX7 rated, the camera and transmitter are submersible up to 3.3' for up to 30 minutes, allowing them to be used during all types of weather.

    Garmin 010-12242-10 reviews

BC 30 Wireless Backup Camera with Car Adapter Power Cable is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Plug and Play Kit This is a great kit, if you already have a compatible Garmin GPS unit. It is easy to install, and syncs right up without any issue or confusion. The two major issues with it are the resolution is just barely acceptable for making things out, and there is a slight latency on the video signal, so there is a very minimal delay (less than a half second, but still noticeable) in the visual feedback. If you're starting from scratch, there are probably better and more cost effective options to wire your car with a backup camera, but if you are looking to add a backup camera quickly and easily to your car, and already have a Garmin to hook this up to, it's hands down the way to go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works just fine for me. Here are some hints. Make sure your GPS is compatible with the BC30 camera kit. There are two camera kits. One kit has a camera and wireless transmitter BUT NO RECEIVER CORD THAT REPLACES THE POWER CORD ON THE GPS. Just because because the GPS you have is comparable with the BC30 camera does not mean it will receive the camera signal. I had to have the replacement power cable. It is $70 if bought separately. The camera has a clip for mounting on top of the license plate. That's OK but if you are using the camera to help with hooking up to a trailer you should mount it higher to provide a better view of the coupler/ball spacial relationship. The higher the better the alignment view. Mine has better clarity in the daytime than at night. But that is to be expected. A flashlight with a magnet would probably help with night hook ups.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation The license plate mounting made the installation easy, although I had to notch the plate. I wired it to tail lights so I can use it when not in reverse. Wireless connection to the GPS simplified the installation. It was less complicated than a dealer installation on my truck.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent image The camera system works well, but was NOT compatible with my Nuvi GPS. It was necessary to upgrade in order to communicate with a screen. Also, on my car, it was impossible to use the license plate bolt to fasten the camera. There were intrinsic vehicle design details that caused physical interference. The system is now working, as advertised, on all functions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good. Two camera's. First is backup, second is a baby cam in the back seat because I did not like the mirror option. The optics are exceedingly wide which are good, but also can be disorienting at times and are not ideal for the baby cam.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a champ Installed in a 2016 Jeep Wrangler (2 door) using a mount that attaches to the spare tire holder (from Quadratec). Got the power for the camera by tapping into the backup light on the passenger side. There is about a 1 or 2 second delay when shifting into reverse before the image is displayed on the Garmin GPS (DriveSmart 51 LMT-S) on a windshield suction mount.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Garmin Backup Camera Review Installing this camera wasn't as easy as Garmin claims. Had trouble routing the cables through the license plate area and through the tail light housing. Camera gives fisheye view and image is really small compared to other backup cameras. It is over priced for what it does. Other than that it does work OK.
