Focusrite MOCL0001 overview

  • 1Description

The Clarett 2Pre from Focusrite is a ten-input, four-output Thunderbolt interface that features microphone preamps modeled after the company's ISA range. Aside from the new transformer-modeled preamps and clean conversion, the Thunderbolt technology allows for monitoring and tracking within a DAW of choice without noticeable delay.

The interface is now fully compatible with Windows-based computers, providing stable operation with identical functionality on both platforms, while offering sub-3 ms latency. Also provided is a Windows version of the Focusrite Control software mixer for monitoring and routing configuration.

The Focusrite Red 2 and Red 3 Plug-In Suite (AAX, Audio Units, VST) delivers accurately modeled plug-ins based on the classic Focusrite Red 2 EQ and Red 3 Compressor hardware. The plug-ins allow for conveniently exploring the sound of the hardware originals from within Pro Tools (10 and above), along with other audio software.

In addition to the Red 2 and Red 3 Plug-in Suite, the interface includes the Softube Time and Tone Pack. Modeled after the Drawmer 1973 FET Stereo compressor hardware, the Drawmer S73 Intelligent Master Processor is a plug-in that aids in balancing and shaping a mix. TSAR-1R adds space, depth and width to a sound. Change settings with a single slider, from realistic three-dimensional rooms to dramatic and dreamlike halls. Tube Delay is an echo effect that can go from clean to rude by overdriving its three modeled tube stages, delivering everything from realistic room echoes and rockabilly-style slapback to dub reggae echo. Saturation Knob is a modeled output-distortion unit that adds grit and warmth - use it to fatten up bass lines, add some harmonics and shimmer to vocals, or simply destroy a drum loop.

    Focusrite MOCL0001 reviews

Clarett 2Pre - Thunderbolt Interface with Clarett Microphone Preamps is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seemed Great Home studio. The Pre's sounded quality. Better than PreSonus at this price level. Slightly better than Apogee. Low Latency. But it started out with no sound. Every reboot or wake from computer I had to re-route the signal path. And then after a week all I/O stopped. Apparently it's broken. So I am returning it. I WOULD exchange it, but for the fact my previous Focusrite interface (Saffire 24 Pro DSP) also broke within 2 months. BTW, I hated the Saffire Total Mix software, but the Clarett software seemed pretty darned simple and good. I would say, if it actually keeps working, it's a great bang for the buck. So get a looooong warranty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Clarity of Clarett It's a great interface from a great company known for their professional audio components. It's got everything I need in a small interface, and does it's job flawlessly. At 24/192, I'm seeing rediculously low sub-3ms lag times, though that can be exceeded by maxing out my DAW buffer settings...but not by much. Looking forward to purchasing their Clarett OctoPre from you in the near future as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Well - Runs a bit Hot I use this all the time with my Apple MacBook Pro to interface with my receiver. I was a bit confused early on - each of the inputs are mono, so I had to get mono to stereo cables. This is a well built unit and has worked very well for me. I worry that it runs a bit hot and if it will affect lifetime of this unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid build. Solid performance Newbie with this kind of equipment. Installation was easy, troubleshooting the wrinkles was a little bit more involved. Nothing that results from a couple online searches couldn't solve. So far, for the most part, I have only been in 'testing mode'.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Focusite does it again! I purchased this interface to replace my Safire Pro 40 and it was well worth the investment. The preamp and air feature take you to the next level of recording. This is definitely the best option for a home studio setup.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Box but analog in and out are mono - document better I needed this to interface my analog receiver with my new MacBook Pro via Thunderbolt. It took me quite a while to get it set up properly, primarily due to the lack of one important piece of information. All of the analog inputs and outputs are MONO (not stereo). I had assumed they were stereo and had purchased appropriate adapters for stereo RCA to 1/4 Phone plugs. After all sorts of trouble shooting I determined first on input and then more trouble shooting on output that they were all mono. Focusrite support just confirmed (after 5 days) what I had discovered on my own after a couple of days of trial and error and a lot of frustration. I wish their description of the product made that more clear. I have since purchased appropriate adapters and am getting what I need - stereo in and out using 2 Focusrite analog inputs and 2 analog outputs. The equipment seems to get awfully warm, but Focusrite support did not answer that part of my question - worried about having the hot box sitting on my teak desk - may put something under the box to protect the wood. The software interface is a bit confusing to me - maybe it's meant for musicians primarily. My primary use will be digitizing more vinyl albums to the Mac via Soundtrack Pro (old software).
