LaCie LAC9000633 Overview

  • 1Description

The LaCie Rugged Mini Portable Hard Drive provides 4TB of space for storing your data. In addition, the drive, as its name suggests, has a hard-boiled design that can stand up to the hazards of daily living. In fact, this drive can take a fall from up to 4' (non-operating mode) without harm to the drive or your information. The Rugged Mini is also pressure-resistant and rain-resistant as well. However, the familiar orange trim probably already told you that.

Being tough is one thing, but the Rugged Mini is also a true performer. The drive features a USB 3.0 interface - which is also USB 2.0 compliant - and a supports a maximum theoretical transfer rate of up to 5Gb/s. When it comes to rpm, the drive functions at 5400 rotations per minute. Beyond speed, the Rugged Mini has security on its agenda. The LaCie Private-Public software that comes built-into the drive ensures that you can keep private files private with the help of a password protected section of the drive.

Note: In order to take advantage of the 1-month membership to Adobe Creative Cloud, customers will need to register this drive on Seagate.com once it has been received. LaCie LAC9000633 Reviews

4TB Rugged Mini Portable Hard Drive is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 52.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Orange is my new black I been user of Western Digital external Passport series drives for almost 20 years until last one went brick after falling from table on carpeted floor. I decided I need something that could withstand minor falls like that. After 2 weeks of almost daily usage I can tell that I'm very satisfied with this drive performance. Both read and write speeds are more than adequate. I don't see any difference in Lightroom performance when I'm working on pictures located on this drive compared to my internal laptop drive. Love it's design too - rubberized on peripheral for shock absorption in case of drops and aluminum core for heat dispersion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended This fast and tough little drive was recommended to me by a video production veteran. Boy was he right. A fast drive for video editing and motion graphics, when I'm on the road cutting or scooping up big gobs of media, this is a very dependable LaCie product. I particularly like the ergonomic design which buffers the drive from accidental impact, has a nifty little way to tuck away your connecting wires and protect inputs. It might seem like a small thing but you can't underestimate how handy it is to have a drive that doesn't slip on surfaces and you can grab and tote easily. Having an orange casing also is like a careful, I have media sign wrapped around it. All in all an excellent product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SO necessary for a portable digital life. Lacie drives are all around a fantastic product. I purchased this drive specifically because of the rubber casing around it, which has served me very well since this drive travels with me a LOT. Using this drive for footage and project storage, I'm giving a solid 4 stars because of the durability, solid connections from drive to computer (so, basically the cable), and it's reliability. I baby it, of course, because it's not solid state. And because of that, the speed at which I edit the footage suffers somewhat because of the drive speed itself - 5400 rpms. I really need an affordable drive like this to be 7200 rpms, and thus, a one star subtraction. It's too bad there aren't half-stars. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disconnects when cable is barely bumped. I've always used WD external hard drives, but heard good things about LaCie so I thought I'd give it a try. The cable for the LaCie has never had a tight fit. I barely bump it and it disconnects, which is a huge pain when transferring large files. I've only used this about 4 months and am extremely cautious when transferring it. I'm disappointed and am planning on replacing it with a WD as soon as I finish typing this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 stars! The best portable hard drive ever. Slim, great quality, fast and reliable. Ive purchased different brands and La Cie was the only one that never let me down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast enough, small enough, strong enough Fits in your hand. Quiet (which is important to me as I use it as an external while recording music). Light weight. Small. Doesn't get overly hot. I've had a LaCie Rugged and 8 years later it is still going strong. Only negative is the short USB cord included. No biggie...I'll just drop a few $ and buy a longer one at B&H next time I go there. Really great, dependable drive that's easy to configure and use and takeup next to NO footprint on your desk.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable, durable Used LaCie for years, then bought several G-Drives, started having issues, went back to LaCie. I own five from 500GB size to 8TB. Great design, speed, durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent large and portable storage! I use this as my Lightroom catalogue and main image storage drive. I start my workflow by loading images to my MacBook Pro 15 inch. I keep them there while I organize and edit. When I'm done I offload to the LaCie drive to free up space. The new 4tb drive replaced my 2tb LaCie rugged mini. I ran out of space. I have nearly 100,000 images. Access speed to images on the drive is fast, but I wouldn't want to do all my work off the drive. Exporting images from the drive through Lightroom works great! 460 images (1.43gb) took about 25 minutes. Easy to transport. This drive is slightly larger and heavier than the 2tb. The only thing I don't like about the LaCie is the detachable USB3 cable. Don't transport the drive with the cable inserted. It can bend the connector inside the drive housing. Really like the way they incorporated the thunderbolt cable on that version of the drive, wish they would do the same for the USB DRIVE. The thunderbolt version costs too much IMO, so I'll deal with USB.
