Dell UP2716D overview

  • 1Description

Covering 100% of the Adobe RGB, 100% of the sRGB, 100% of the REC 709, and 98% of the DCI-P3 color spaces, the UP2716D 27" 16:9 IPS Monitor from Dell gives you the color accuracy you need to ensure your photos and videos are true to life. In addition to enhanced color accuracy, this Dell Ultra-Sharp monitor comes factory calibrated to Delta-E < 2 so you do not have to calibrate the display when it arrives.

With a 2560 x 1440 resolution the UP2716D provides a crisp clear picture, and with support for up to 1.07 billion colors you have an expanded color palette to choose from. Along with enhanced resolution, this ultra-sharp monitor supports a 6 ms response time for reduced ghosting when viewing video, and 1,000:1 contrast ratio for deeper dark and brighter bright colors resulting in a more dynamic picture.

Configuration is simple with a variety of connectors including DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB port. This Dell monitor can even support content from two PCs simultaneously thanks to the dual USB 3.0 upstream ports and embedded KVM switch. Once configured, this IPS (In-Plane Switching) display can be viewed from nearly any angle with support for 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angles.

Professional Grade Color

Wide Color Coverage
This Dell UltraSharp Monitor comes equipped with PremierColor offering 100% Adobe RGB and 100% sRGB color coverage as well as two new color spaces: 100% REC 709 and 98% DCI-P3, which are ideal for video editors during post-production work and animation designers who deal with color-critical projects.
Precise, Accurate Colors
This monitor comes factory-color calibrated with a deltaE of less than 2, making any color differences between the desired color and onscreen color indistinguishable to the human eye.
User-Enabled Adjustments
Dell's software development kit, or SDK, enables customers with a proprietary color solution to customize Dell UltraSharp Monitors with their preferred specifications. You can also fine-tune color parameters, including RGBCMY saturation, RGBCMY hue, RGB, and RGB offset.
Extensive Color Gamut
Take advantage of a high level of detail - even in dark areas - with a color depth of 1.07 billion colors, that's approximately 64 times more colors than standard monitors.

Enhanced Viewing Experience

Seamless Setup
Experience virtually seamless viewing across a dual- or multiple-monitor setup thanks to ultra-thin bezels.

    Dell UP2716D reviews

    UP2716D 27" 16:9 IPS Monitor is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Monitor for photo editing The color after calibration is outstanding! Dell suggests the use of the X-Rite Colorimeter and software to calibrate the monitor. With a little effort I was able to tune the display to match my Standard Epson PDI target colors perfectly with my vintage ColorVision Spyder2 colorimeter. The prints of the targets from my Epson R2880 are also a perfect match (the objective of calibration)! The trick is to use the monitor's buttons and select Color|Custom Color|Gain and then adjust the RGB sliders. I set Gamma=PC (2.2), Color Space=Adobe RGB and Color Temp =6500K. I reducced the rating to 4 stars because of Dell's lack of alternative clalibration insturctions other the recommendation of X-Rite.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Monitor Love this monitor. One the main reasons why I purchased this monitor is for its wide color gamut as I do a lot of Photoshop work. I am very pleased with the results. In addition, the monitor displays very clear, crisp details and text. I love that the monitor displays 2560 x 1440 pixels because I can view so much more on screen whether web pages, multiple documents, spreadsheets, etc. The display area reaches nearly to the edges of the monitor so the physical size is about the same as my old Dell U2410, 24-inch monitor. I had to use the monitor's Display Port input (cable supplied) to achieve the resolution, so your video card will need to have a Display Port output for similar results. I highly recommend this monitor if you do serious work on your computer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from POOR COLOR UNIFORMITY The monitor I received had a distinct change in colour/hue from left to right across the display. The left side was green/yellow, the right side was magenta (see pic). This had a distinct impact on (for example) skin tone rendition across the screen. The only way to get rid of this hue change was to switch on the software-based 'Uniformity Compensation' mode - under UC mode the monitor looked fine, i.e. evenly lit and with even color. BUT in UC mode you cannot use other calibrated colorspaces such as Rec 709 and DCI P3 thus rendering the monitor useless for precise color work. I have read other complaints about exactly the same issue on various Dell-related fora, so I am not alone. I will speak to Dell and see if there's a work around, but I will probably be returning the monitor and will look elsewhere. It is a shame as on paper the monitor looks good. Under UC mode it looks good, but that makes it just a nice office screen, not the proper color grading monitor that is advertised, and for which one is paying a premium. To be honest, without UC the monitor looks worse than my 1999 22 Apple Cinema Display. I updated the firmware, and spoke to B&H. I will try Dell and see if there's a solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from New Dell UP2716D 27 Widescreen LED Backlit UltraSharp LCD M Used for Post Production color grading. Pros: Great image, great price, beats the completion hands down, thin bezel, arrived in a couple of days Cons: As with many of these monitors, set up was not as intuitive as it could be but once done, we love it

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a pro monitor. Left side some greenish rigth side irregular spot up in the middle bluish this is very annoying and very noticeable since it is a spot, it makes me mad, the other color deviations are bigger areas and not very strong, not so disturbing. Color compensation only works in standard setting, other than that for example if you use sRGB color seting then color compensation is automatically disabled. Power touch button only works 1 of 100 times only with a wet finger and applying a very important pressure. First time I thought it was DOA but the culprit was the horrendous power button. Almost 700 payed, a lot of money here, to get decent monitor for photography, really regret about this purchase. I can't return it just the freigth and custom twice will be equivalent to the value of purchasing a second unit. Dell do you have quality control department? The only pro to me is the KVM switch and the panel is very clear. I wanted a 27 inched wide gamut with KVM switch......this is why I purchased this one. I used to have dell U2711 better monitor by far. Ido not recommend it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sharp display, poor color management The display overall is good and sharp. With the "Uniformity Compensation" feature turned on, it does test fairly uniform with DisplayCAL software and an i1 Display Pro. The downside is that if you do hardware calibration with Custom Color mode, the Gain/Offset/Hue/Saturation controls are all disabled. Only the Brightness/Contrast can be adjusted. The CAL1/CAL2 modes automatically turn off Uniformity Compensation too. Why does the monitor have Uniformity Compensation if you can't use it with hardware calibration? Other downsides: Dell X-Rite software hasn't been updated since 2016. It is also not as accurate as DisplayCAL. It also has no BT.1886 Gamma 2.4 for video, only Rec.709.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally! Found a Keeper! I have tried numerous monitors that range in size from 27-34 inches and I have finally found one that I can keep. The color accuracy out of the box is great for my image editing and there is plenty of screen real estate for Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4d. The thin bezel is also a plus. I love not having a thick border around my monitor. Thanks to B&H I was able to buy this monitor at the lowest price that I could find and get it fast with free shipping.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YES! Excellent colors! Super easy to set up, change color spaces, and calibrate. I use REC709 for Video/movies, AdobeRGB for photographs.. Very sharp picture! Very well made, easy to assemble and disassemble. Worth the extra money!
