Mevo Live Event Camera by Livestream (Black)

Mevo Live Event overview

  • 1Description

Livestream's Mevo Live Event Camera combines a camera, a live streaming platform, and a video switcher to form an all-in-one story-telling device. Despite its palm-sized form-factor, the Live Event Camera fits a UHD 4K sensor behind a 150° wide-angle lens. This configuration endows the Live Event Camera with the capability of supporting 9 virtual camera angles at 720p resolution. Each virtual angle is controllable and selectable via the free iOS app (requires iOS 9.3 or later operating on iPhone 5s or newer) or Android app (requires Android 6.0 or higher and a compatible device). Using touch-based gestures; you can control each angle as if it was a real camera with a zoom lens on a tripod. With the Live Event Camera you can stream directly on the Livestream, Facebook Live, Periscope, and Twitter platforms. Alternatively use the UHD 4K resolution of the sensor to record sharp video directly to the internal SD card.

Note: check the Mevo website for updated iOS and Android mobile device compatibility

Edit Live in HD
The 4K resolution sensor inside the Live Event Camera is sufficient for supporting up to 9 virtual 720p HD cameras. The "cameras" and the switching between the cameras are controlled via touchscreen gestures on your mobile device. While operating, the app will either display the full sensor image, where you can edit using the multi-touch gestures, or all the virtual angles based on facial recognition or manual angle placement. When operating using the full-sensor mode, tapping on the screen will cut to a new angle, pinching the active image area will zoom it in and out, and dragging the active image area will introduce a pan movement. Alternatively, you can choose to view all of the angles on a preview screen and choose them like you would on a video switcher. The facial recognition is powerful enough to trigger an automated editing process which will take over if the app is left alone for an extended period. Edit decisions will be made by the facial recognition based on which subject is speaking. Audio is handled with an integrated stereo microphone, whose signal can be combined with any audio source connected to your mobile device's audio jack.
Sharing Options
The advantage of editing your footage in real-time is that right after the event, you have a fully cut video ready for sharing. Internally, video is recorded to microSD cards. A 16GB card is included with the camera so you can record with it right out of the box. Another option is to take advantage of your connected mobile device. Using the app, video can be uploaded to your favorite social networks.

If you have a Livestream subscription, or an account on Facebook, Periscope, or Twitter, you can connect the Live Event Camera via Wi-Fi, and broadcast your event over the web, having this tiny camera replace up to 9 physical cameras and a switcher. Better yet, the camera can record internally and stream simultaneously. The best connection scenario is having the camera connect to a broadband Wi-Fi network, which it can leverage for the most reliable video. However, if you connect it directly to your iPhone's access point, you can stream using your cell provider's LTE network (data charges may be applicable depending on the provider). Quality will automatically adapt to the available bit rate(5 Mbps minimum required for streaming), so your viewers will experience the best quality possible for a given scenario.

Depending on the streaming platform, resolutions of up to 1080p can be streamed live, though you have the option of 720p streaming to conserve bandwidth.

The pocket-sized chassis makes the Live Event Camera versatile in that it can be placed almost anywhere, unobtrusively. Because of this, you can use it to film concerts, weddings, sports games, conferences, and more, without being forced to go far away from the action. No special rigs are required, just set it on a table-top or use the included base to screw it onto a microphone stand or a tripod with the included 1/4"-20 adapter. When not inside the base, the camera will be slightly tilted up, preventing the shot from being dominated by the surface that the camera is placed on, e.g. a table or desk.

Atop the camera is a status LED which displays current recording and network connection status. It can also act as a tally light, illuminating the approximate direction the current virtual camera is pointing. A rear USB port can be used for power, charging the internal battery, and data transfer from the microSD card to a computer. The internal battery will last for up to an hour on a full charge. For longer events, a 10' USB power cable is included, so when the camera is plugged in, there will be ample slack for placing the camera away from the wall.

    Mevo Live Event reviews

Live Event Camera by Livestream (Black) is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing The zoom, find face, and live editing features are great. The major drawback is that you have to rely on wifi in order to broadcast your event- which can be dicey in large venues. The audio cuts in and out and the app that goes with the camera is underdeveloped and inconsistent. Also, this camera will not hook directly into your computer, it must be used through an iOS device, so even though you can draw sound from your board the sound has to go into the iOS device (which needs another adaptor) then into the stream. Hopefully Mevo will add a direct line in to the camera and an sid or ethernet port.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun, Easy to Love Putting aside the camera's brilliant minimalist design and endless utility, the app is fluid, natural and just plain fun to use. It integrates with the desktop Livestream Studio seamlessly and affords a genuinely impressive degree of control without overwhelming the user with menu options. Almost everything you could want to do in the app takes at most three taps to access, engage, and dismiss. Going forward, open up the camera to integration with voice control and automation platforms and an API for DIYers and modders (it might be already, I honestly don't know) and you could have the makings of a revolution on your hands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not use this for professional application We purchased this as a cost effective option to share event activation's with Facebook audiences. On the two occasions we used the Mevo, it cut out and failed to deliver even one complete stream. We had a minimum of 10mps up and down with near 100% reception. The Mevo Application froze and the Camera did not maintain connectivity throughout the webcast. When left to trouble shoot the issues there is little or no advice available. DO NOT USE THIS FOR PROFESSIONAL APPLICATION. It will let you down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for professional use Really a nice camera, but not suitable for professional us in livestreaming. App and cam only work fine in Mevo hot spot mode, but not when using an existing Wifi network. App crashes and doesn't find the connection to the cam, although all settings are fine. Very critical bug. Nice for recording and sharing afterwards. But not for livestreaming!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delighted - better than expected This camera had a ton of hype. I got it two days ago and to my pleasant suprise it delivers. The ability to use one camera and cut between shots as well as control pans and tilts via a phone is amazing. Gonna use this for my podcast.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Check Wifi Restrictions Before Buying The Mevo does not support Wifi networks that require either you to use a username and password, or to accept any terms. As I work at a university campus, the Mevo is useless. I can't comment much beyond this, as I've been unable to use it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Camera with a few bugs Use for a live streaming interview show. Works wonderfully. Wish there was a way to use the osmo or a second camera for different angles. Takes a bit to learn to call the shots on phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing camera for live streaming! This little live streaming camera is an amazing product. Streams live to Livestream or Facebook using your iPad or iPhone as a video production studio in your hand! It streams in 720p so make sure you have a reliable internet connection of at least 5 Mbps to ensure a good live stream. As always, super fast delivery and service from B&H!
