HELO H.264 Streamer & Recorder is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Stable Live Streaming Box that is Set and Forget The HELO replaced the Matrox HDX for our live streaming needs. I will say that the Matrox was a little easier to set up in some ways, but as far as performance, the HELO has it beat six ways from Sunday. The firmware has been stable, which is something that can't be said for the HDX (which was constantly crashing and needing to be reset). Once set up, this box has performed flawlessly week in and week out. It's more expensive than some of the other streaming boxes, but in a live broadcast environment, I will gladly pay a few dollars more for a machine that I don't have to worry about. The HELO has been money well spent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better than a Teradek After having a frustrating time with Teradek Cubes (I purchased 4 pairs and returned them all), I bought one of these to stream to a laptop for remote monitoring. Unlike the Cube, it was easy to setup and worked without locking up. I have used this for about 10 shows without problem. As for the recording, it is a nice feature but needs some work. I have had the scheduled recording not work once, and a corrupt recording another time (video played back twice as fast). It would also be nice if you didn't have to select your recording medium. I would prefer if it would just record to whatever is plugged in instead of having to select SD, USB, or both.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice streaming device on a budget beware if using several if you're using one (a single box) on a network subnet with V2.0 firmware, you're likely to have a nice time with it- however if you try to put more than one of these on the same network subnet be ready for chaos as they behave unpredictably with some sort of strange ganging function which can't be disabled and isn't wanted. I put each of them on their own /30 vlan an that helped a lot which may be above and beyond for many people to configure their networks like this. had to return them however because the unit feels overly fragile for portable applications and it cannot encode RTSP over TCP only supports UDP currently which is a non-starter for my environment. AJA support did not return calls or emails to assist or offer a long-term outlook when requested.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rock solid, ready for the long haul. I spoke with another user who is very deep in the streaming world, and he highly recommended this appliance. Easy to use, worked the first three times I tried it without a hitch. Excellent system, the newest firmware seems to have taken care of any instability.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job Solid as a rock, does what it says it is going to do, great features. Took me a day to figure out that if you have for instance both the USB and SD configured to record, well you better have media in the slots, or neither will record. It's all or nothing. But once you understand these things, I really like the preview screen of the video in the browser, and the obvious indicators that streaming and recording are happening. Looking forward to using it more, and testing the remote control capabilities. Can't beat the price either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! Bought another one! It's a pro piece, not for consumer level users. If you are comfortable with network based interface and control you'll be just fine. It is rock solid and dependable - no laptop to crash!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor interoperability with professional IRDs. This is for firmware rev 1.1.1. Rolled the dice to see if this would work as a budget all-in-one H264 encoder IP encapsulator like a Teradek Cube. Tested unit as UDP multicast stream with Upcoms, Ericsson/Tandberg rx8200, Dektec DTE-3100, Adtec RD-60, and Harmonic 7100. Only the Upcoms decoded video and audio from this unit. It also worked with an Amino a130, but that is a consumer set top box and definitely not professional. Initial configuration was straight forward, the web gui was not very intuitive but still usable, there aren't a lot of handles when it comes to audio and video parameters. To be clear, this review is only negative based on broadcast professional decoder/de-encapsulator issues. Just want to save someone else the time and expense of testing. I suspect this is meant for streaming to a CDN like Akemai or Facebook, and it might work fine for that, but that isn't what I tested.
